Over-thought it way too much, erased it and started again with the focus on favourite (leaving only the tiniest gap between GT and THB) rather than "best", and settled on this:

1) Generation Terrorists
2) The Holy Bible
3) This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
4) Gold Against The Soul
5) Everything Must Go
6) Futurology
7) Know Your Enemy
8) Journal For Plague Lovers
9) Rewind The Film
10) Send Away The Tigers
11) Lifeblood
12) Postcards From A Young Man

This is still difficult... The rating I've given them relates to how good they are, as opposed to their ranking (which is how much I like them)

1. The Holy Bible (10/10, every song excellent)

2. Everything Must Go (9/10, beautiful album, not as good as THB)

3. Generation Terrorists (7/10, a mess, brilliant songs mixed with absolutely shit ones (Heavenly SOS is a million times better than GT))

4. Know Your Enemy (8/10, another mess, but only in terms of eclecticism)

5. Rewind the Film (8/10, gentle and pretty, almost every song a winner)

6. This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours (7/10, most songs good, couple of low points)

7. Journal For Plague Lovers (8/10, musically good, lyrics very variable)

8. Gold Against the Soul (7/10, completely destroyed by the two closing tracks, which are possibly the worst Manics songs ever)

9. Lifeblood (8/10, lovely songs, beautiful atmosphere)

10. Futurology (7/10, ruined by Gartside, otherwise solid)

11. Send Away the Tigers (6/10, bland in many places, a few passable tunes)

12. Postcards From A Young Man (4/10, plastic Manics-by-numbers, watered down EMG)
