An article in a Chilean music magazine about Even In Exile is the coolest thing ever!

Recuerda is the love child of This Sullen Welsh Heart and International Blue. This is a very good thing.

I've listened to this album two or three times every day since it was released and can now officially say without recency bias or initial infatuation that THIRTY THOUSAND MILK BOTTLES is a solid banger that will be remaining on my Manics playlists forever.

I love its stomping passive aggressiveness, especially the almost-angry-almost-restrained-nearly-shouting line "memory of the dispossessed". And THAT guitar solo. It had my ears pricking up on first listen and it gets better and better.

The rest of the album is lovely too but that track in particular nails it for me and the first Manics related track that has had me reaching for the repeat button since International Blue. A true "hot banger" in the new popular terminology round here.

I've started calling songs bangers since the do you love us podcasts. Other phrases I've taken away is "naughty little punk boys" and "dogshit"
If I start saying "yeahyeahyeahyeah" I'll punch myself in the face

This release week position-watching is so British and odd I've lived here for 2 years now and still don't get it. Music Combat really is an oddly Anglo-Saxon pastime.

The album's ace but atm I can't escape the feeling that the first half is way better than the second half, and that there's one instrumental too many on it. (Especially odd having an instrumental-song-instrumental structure in the middle). The opening three is incredible though, so is Milk Bottles and the Mimosa tree instrumental. Recuerca has a bit of Red Rubber in it, which is such a good thing.

Considering this is an album with no singles about a murdered Chilean activist who's been in the ground for forty years, released by a front man of a band who haven't had a real hit for 13 years, no.6 in the UK charts is way more than what I would anticipate.

I think the track of La Pardita is particularly inspirational of Victor Jara in James' version and he hasn't diverted from it. The native instruments by Jara are really lovely in they seem to hold sadness and hope for peace. I notice it's from his album 'The Right to Live in Peace.' I also notice Pink Floyd's Roger Waters has covered the album track though changed the lyrics somewhat. That just seems unfair to have done, almost giving a wrong impression of Victor Jara, for those such as me who didn't know about him. It's not even like his peace protest song. Perhaps his own self importance was the reason for that and others. I follow Syd Barrett stuff on fb and it seems to make sense of his time with the band. I really think JDB's album is excellent.

Anyone else find it a bit weird that this is being consistently referred to as ‘his second solo record/album’? I mean I guess in some ways it is, but only by dint of arbitrary classification.

Shout out to the soundtrack for The Chamber is what I’m saying, basically. JDB’s real second solo album, as I see it. EIE is his third as far as I’m concerned.
