After the gold rush?

does anyone know if they have ever covered this? I found a MP3 * cough (soulseek) * purporting to be 'After the gold rush' by James Dean Bradfield. It does sound like James doing a impersonation of Neil Young but I'm not 100% sure. Its not live and there is some pretty good drumming on it too. Bound to be someone on here who knows please.....

As nooone has replied can I assume it isn't James then? It does sound like him though, and it is def not Neil Young.

I don't remember any mention of a Neil Young cover. I could be wrong though, I haven't followed every single radio session or TV appearance.

is * cough * still running? haven't used that for years. quite a good resource for rare and unreleased things, but i was utterly disgusted by how many leaked albums you could get off it and therefore of course removed it.

It is still running but I haven't been able to find that track again. There are fewer leaked albums now I think. I haven't had enough posts to get onto *** I'm afraid.

P2P file sharers often have mislabeled tracks. I remember Radiohead and Manics often getting mixed, such as a 'manics' version of street spirit and even a colab between the bands at one point. The MP3 in question might just be Thom Yorkes version.

Lol, I think you would be able to distinguish between Thom Yorke's awful weedy voice and James's

I've never heard of this track being covered in 10 years of online fandom and a fairly extensive knowledge of pre-2002 too....i may be forgetful or missing it, but I'm fairly sure it doesn't exist.

How do you know it isn't Yorke? You may find this hard to believe, but he's actually quite the mimic vocally. Perhaps you've seen Velvet Goldmine, if so, its Thom singing on the Roxy Music covers? Have a listen if you haven't heard them, he sounds almost exactly like Brian Ferry. He also does a mean Ian Curtis and George Harrison.

I've heard Radiohead's live cover of After the Gold Rush and yes, Yorkie, true to form, puts on a Young-esque vocal. In all my years as a Manics fan, I've never once heard JDB sound like anyone other than himself.

Yeah, a lot of people have the same problem; they can't stand his voice. Personally, I prefer his voice back in the 90's to what it's become now. Still think he's a great vocalist though, just not as good as his younger days.
