It applies on a lot of levels lyric wise

"You didn't wake up this morning cause you didn't go to bed, You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red"

After Nynex - at that point a career highlight - nicky has since remarked how neither he nor james could sleep and stayed up til 7 the next day

"You've been reading some old letters, You smile and you think how much you've changed, And all the money in the world couldn't bring back those days"

reading richey's journal when deciding to do jfpl and "thinking how they have changed" since THB days

"And all your friends and family think that you're lucky, But the side of you they'll never see Is when you're left alone with the memories That hold your life together, together like glue."

People might think they are lucky with the 'second chances' they have had and the success but underpinning it all is the sadness of richey

It is a bit of an X Factor cover, from the "heart tugging backstory" element to the "here's the key change" final choruses with an extra unsubtle brief dropout bit beforehand.

I like this song a lot more than I did when I first heard it last year.
If people (Non FD) are only going to think of them as ADFL, Tolerate, YSTSFMY and Motorcycle, this is a good single I wouldn't mind hearing it on the radio as the DJ's give us "Radio's idea of surprise" .

But that said, I hope This Is The Day is the first thing that shatters, and shatters into a million pieces, when the bands new stuff gets released.
