Same. Makes you wonder how many of the sales are casual!

Absolutely this!! Apparently if it's original songs it's ok. If it's a compilation then no... either way it's Hugh fucking Jackman

It was at 21 in my local Tesco this morning.

If The Damned manage to make top five or even top ten later with a crowdfunded album that hasn’t had much in the way of radio support or promoted tweets or paid for trending on YouTube from a major label (or availability in my local Tesco), I feel like they can be the happier and prouder of the two.

Can we blame Brexit for the album not reaching number 1?

Don't feel bad - a band 30 years into the business is still getting number 2 albums, loads of airplay, playing arenas and the members are millionaires with their health as they approach 50. And the music's fantastic. No one's really losing out here.

So it’s no.1 under sensible rules of actual sales of actual things? Moral victory! And kind of in keeping with the themes of the album, the inherent caution toward digital distribution etc... oh well.

Now might be the time for me to mention I was somewhat traumatised by the circus as a young child. My parents decided it would be fun for me to be sat upon an enslaved elephant, but I found the experience horrific and cried the place down. Now I can clearly see it was a really far-reaching and startling premonition of my feelings about the Manics being pipped to the no.1 album spot by The Gr*****t Sh**man.

I cuss at the circus! And the steaming streaming!

I should say I haven't seen The Gr*****t Sh**man or heard its soundtrack, but I imagine it's something like....

Only with Wolverine out of X-Men in?

All joking aside, it's still a great result and well-deserved for a fantastic album.

Do you think it will make a difference if I buy the album? It's only one more copy.

Wire should phone up everyone that bought more than 3 copies to thank them personally. Anyone with more than 5 should get a knock on the door to see the band standing there with flowers and chocolates.

Another No.2 album then. Bastard. Hell, it's still a great result, it's like their 5th No.2 album I believe without looking it up. I don't understand how a soundtrack album can be included, it's not fair if you ask me, even my girlfriend just said the same thing when I told her. Makes me loath that film even more now. At the end of the day, it's a very good album, I really like it, I am happy that it exists and pleased my favourite band got another No.2 album. Let's hope it can sell well over time, but I see it disappearing from the top 100 in about 3 weeks, and that'll be it, picking up odd sales here and there
