JUDGE YR'SELF
When was this song actually recorded?..
I know this song was written back in late 94, but when was the "Official" version layed down? I take it the version that was released on the Holy Bible DVD etc wasnt the original version?.. Anyone have any info on this? Also, has anyone ever heard the original demo? |

Yes, I'd like to ask the same questions.

As far as I can recall it was said at the time of the Lipstick Traces release that Judge Yr'self was the unfinished version recorded in 1994 but it had been given a 'techno remix' by Sean.

I've always wondered this myself. I know it was apparently written about 94 time but I've always been under the impression that it was actually recorded in time for Lipstick Traces, although James' vocals do sound like they could have been from 94 as he's screaming pretty well in the recording
But who knows. Someone ask the Manics!!!

I always thought it sounded pure '94.
Would be interested to be proved wrong, though... |

I was just about to ask the same question for no apparent reason other than I just listened to it...
I think James has (mercifully) looked after his 'chords' so that it's actually hard to distinguish whether his vocals were recorded in early 95 or 03, although I'd hedge a bet on the latter. Still a demo was recorded wasn't it? So perhaps some of the original recording was polished and added to to create the Lipstick Traces version. Would love to hear the original tho, with Richey on guitar of course

My belief (as a cynic) is that the track we've heard was all recorded for Lipstick Traces. They also used to say they had a song called Alien Orders/Invisible Armies in the vaults but then recorded a completely new song under that title this year. Then there's that Anniversary To No One track they supposedly did for TIMTTMY. You never know, they might actually record a song called that one day. |

I get the feeling it was re-recorded for LT, based on the rather nerdy fact that the snare used on the recording isn't the one which Sean used throughout the THB era.

it was recorded as demo in the January 1995 sessions, so maybe they used different equipment? Not sure though!

lets just hope that if there is a recording of this from 1995, it surfaces sometime in the future. I also want to hear a demo of faster, as i remember hearing james it took something like 94 recordings to get it just right. would love to hear the first version!! hopefully he doesnt sound like he is singing "VULTUREEE" instead of "BUTCHER"

yeah who the hell got hold of the 1985-1989 Demos????
Must have been risky if it was pinched, or lucky if found in a skip! |
