Glastonbury 94 or Reading 94?
With the 20th anniversary of the Bypass gig there has been quite rightly a lot of press about Glastonbury 94. The band have talked the Holy Bible era as being the pinnacle of the group, either musically or aesthetically.
From all of that the Glastonbury 94 gig is seen as one of the best Manics recorded gigs of all time. But I was wondering about people's thought about the Glastonbury 94 gig vs. the Reading 94 gig? In many ways I prefer the Reading gig. Although the band are at their most aggressive and visceral at Glastonbury, there is something greatly virtuous about the Reading show. Probably the sound is better at Glastonbury (I love the fact they thought Richey was the lead guitarist) but at Reading they are a tight as fuck and Wire actually plays the bass properly and does some nice backing vocals! Also Reading 94 has a brill version of Revol before it was cool to like Revol (with bonus boobs). But it's YLU that is the one for me. I love the Wire losing it during the solo and Jimbo at the end of the solo shouting Wire! Wire! Wire! Wire! Wire! Wire! Wire! and bending that squealing note. Pure magic. I think it might be Reading for me but I'd love to hear other fan's thoughts! Last edited by Europa Gluten Free; 26-06-2014 at 00:06. |
