I think I appreciate the lyrics more now that I know he's referring to the Chartists (read about it here) and the line about the bullet holes really hits hard re: Hobsbawm's warning of a post-Cold War "permanent present"

Which, to be honest, I might. ;-) I absolutely adore Jeff Tweedy, but that time I went to see Wilco shortly after they'd released "Ghost...", it was just jamming/instrumentals for what felt like hours on end... I always need vocals.

i think that makes me £1 and some 72 hours more of a Manics fan than that twat Franny is.

what do i think of the album? no idea, no means to play it right now, will have a listen on the walkman on the bus tomorrow.
Startruck - does the deluxe edition booklet tell you who sings the vocal on 'The Last Time I Saw Paris'?

Not hugely impressed, but they were only 45 second clips.

My deluxe version is now downloading (9:10 pm).

For some reason, the words "indie disco" sound really, really weird coming out of JDB's mouth...

For some reason Misguided Missile and some of the later tracks sounds to me like the Manics version of Thom Yorkes "The Eraser" (the album, not the song)

I fully accept that no one else will share this opinion

And is it true that Jimbo wrote the lyrics to Jet to Moscow?

I'll just answer my own question and say that Wire says in the Q track by track that Jimbo did write the lyric to this.

Just coming towards the end of my first listen. Not as impressed as I thought I was going to be. It's more Send Away the Tigers than I had hoped for. Even though there are some nice new sounds on there, the band still tend to fall into the anthemic chorus trap, that as a fan I've become a little tired of. Not bad, but not quite what I'd built myself up for. I'm sure I'll grow into a lot of it.

It's nice to hear Sean so much on one album.

It's interesting to see Moscow as a JDB solo track. It's very Great Western.

the title track is a poor choice of opener - puny verses, meandering chorus, trite lyrics, basic, forgettable melody. shouldn't even have made it as a b-side, let alone album track... let alone title track...... let alone opening track. consigned to the iTunes 'unticked' list, alongside Underdogs et al.

I wasn't aware one existed, where would one be able to see the Q track by track old bean?
