Can't decide which was the worst era - GATS or PFAYM?

I can only listen to the singles on PFAYM these days. GATS proving more than the one overshadowed by their debut and THB.
Well for me anyway.

Yes. Yes it does. Three of their best singles are on there. And Sleepflower

PFAYM needs to go in the bin

Really don't know what next. Only thing I'm sure of is the next album probably won't sound like Resistance Is Futile. They've surprised me many a time and will again - some surprises better than others. I loved the solo albums, love the fact that James has written a horror soundtrack. Kinda hoped for summat more.. I dunno... atmospheric or summat. Fuck off, do your own thing, come back together with different ideas.

As far as gigs go, I was a bit ambivalent about this tour but loved the Manchester gigs. Off to York on Monday and Liverpool after that, looking forward to em. Bit frustrating though, what a wealth of material they've got and as far as the second half of the set goes we'll be lucky if there are 15 different songs across the whole tour. Saw Suede do two nights at the Albert Hall last month, about a third of the set was different. Alright they weren't playing an album, but two nights in one venue and one change? Can do better than that..

Aye, gotta be end of em? Course I'd got to anniversary gigs on every tour if they happened.. Shame they don't like Know Your Enemy or Lifeblood much. Be nice if they gave em a nod at least, play Convalescent or Fragments or summat.

New album and small venue tour, playing more varied matieral and more newer songs. Like others have said, drop stuff like EMG and YLU. EMG becomes weaker and flatter as time goes on at live shows, it doesn't work at Manics gigs or festival slots anymore. It's like once a new album is out they just play a few tracks and then within months it drops to maybe one song they perform and that's it, it's going to get forgotten about sadly. If you went to a gig and asked a random average fan if they'd like to hear a song from RTF or F albums I bet they'd not even know what albums you were referring to!

If I had my druthers, I'd want them to do something loud/hard/lo-fi/visceral... sorta like Holy Bible, but more modern, maybe even more "garage rock". Songs that would go over big when played live.

Seems like one of the kinds of music they would excel at but haven't quite attempted.

Made a pretty good go of it with Journal for Plague Lovers and I suppose something like that could be promising. As a fan of many years,a I just find myself wondering where they can really go now. I remember Noel Gallagher referring to an Oasis album in the early 2000's as something like "just another one to add to the O section in the record stores" and it feels like any new album would be entering into that kind of territory.

I would still like to see a proper 'B' sides compilation, but as much as I enjoyed Resistance is Futile, I find myself thinking Futurology should have maybe been their swansong.

That'd be amazing. Or even a set that's at least half non-singles. Album gigs aside, fuck knows when the last time that was, generally lucky to get more than a quarter.

I was listening to an interview with James from last year where he states that the newer material (particular Futurology and RTF) just doesn't sit well on a setlist with the cornerstone classics. They never fucking will if you don't play them. I would have happily gone to a gig on the RiF tour if they hadn't played only four the weaker stuff off the album + 17 tracks they play at every gig.
Wonder if the half of RIF that hasn't been touched yet ever will be. Still a bit baffled by that Futurology UK tour, I don't know if it was a case of them ancitipating having the album done by then and touring it properly and just down to bad planning, or whether that was how it was planned all along. Testing the waters again for Holy Bible stuff. So on that tour we only got Futurology and Europa, then Brixton got Let's Go To War. Since then, between the Rough Trade launch, that James solo Brickworks thing and the Holy Bible tours there've been 8/12 tracks from the album performed live. Wonder if owt else from RIF is gonna get a belated look in, or whether it's only ever gonna be International Blue.

Jackie Collins is less than two and a half minutes long and piss easy to play. No excuse for leaving that out.
