I really feel that there's a lot of over-thinking with the Manics nowadays, and not enough trusting their instincts and letting things flow. My feeling is that James got better results without having anyone else's expectations of what the music should sound like hanging over him. Perhaps!
Completely disagree, if anything doing the solo album reminded him that he works best in a band and loves being around the other guys. TGW was brilliant but the fact that he's said it was a one off suggests he's happy in the place he is now. I'd say they do go with their instincts the 'half hour for inspiration policy' for example JFPL and Lifeblood are good examples of instincts and doing what they want.

I must be the only person in the whole world that prefers TGW to any Manics album. I don't care what people say, that's just my opinion!

Just re-read my post and there was a very important mistake- I meant to say James didn't enjoy doing music as much without Sean and Nicky!

I'd be a James fan if they split up though!

You are a James fan anyway, this is hardly news. I reckon Sean would become the Liam of the group.

Sean is far too smart to turn into a Liam!

Lifeblood was an attempt at being radio-friendly.

JFPL was what they thought fans/media/whoever expected consindering they were using Richey lyrics.

If TGW is a one-off and he never does anything else solo then I think it's a bit sad as I love TGW!

I would definitely say my favourite manics-related album since EMG is TGW.

Meh, I think Lifeblood was quite natural in its way. Welcome to the forum, any relation to MrsCarbohydrate?

I'd love to hear more solo stuff from James, but not at the expense of Manics stuff.

Still, this thread has made me put the album on. I always forget how great it is.

IMO it's one of their most natural albums and hardly attempting to be radio-friendly.

Re: solo James, I think we might get one if Wire decides to do another solo album and James finds himself bored in the meantime. Wouldn't count on it though, he seems way too modest to be both in the band and doing solo work.
