Still a shame that Columbia are shite at promoting the band. My own bias aside, I do think they could be a lot bigger now than they are if they were marketed well. Thing is, they haven't really been marketed well since the KYE era (which is especially funny given the willful anti-commercial stance of that album).
Columbia's marketing is one "something for the weekend" appearance and one "Later..." appearance. The recording on "Later..." is so poor now they can't even get the Manics to sound to good.

Maybe Columbia might finally help to better promote them in the US. ...or maybe not.

Sony own Columbia don't they? It's not a different record company.. I'm sure last time they signed a new deal they said it was with Columbia

Yep that's what I was saying before, its a surprise they have been with the same label (Sony, Columbia, Epic) since the first album. Pretty good going for a major label.

I was replying to slop101.. same company means they won't be promoting the band in the US any more than they have done.. I doubt they'd want it anyway... they'd have to spend too much time away from their families.

They must get on well with whatever team look after them to be there that long

Does Columbia give them tour support in the states? Or was that last tour all out of their own pockets?

The 2009 one made a huge loss which i think came out of their own pockets, not sure.

2009 they paid for themselves... not sure about this one. If they did the same and made a massive loss they must have very deep pockets

This year's American shows, at least the venue I went to, was twice as well attended as the last one, so hopefully they broke even, at least.

So what does it mean exactly? Almost full, half-full?

I meant that the venue they played in 2009 was about half as big as the one they played this year. So, twice as many people, higher ticket price... I just want it to be worth their time so they'll be back soon.

In 2009, they said they'll be back for the next album, and they didn't come back until 4 albums later...

Eh, If they made a loss on it I'm sure Nicky would have boasted about it by now....

Kinda surprised that Sony have offered them another deal given the overall decline of sales industry-wide and how much their popularity has declined since the late 90s and how ageist the industry can be. Don't know what sales have been like since This Is My Truth really.. Half expected them setting up a label themselves to be the next step from setting up their own studio, maybe they will in the future.

Really? While they're certainly not at their height, I think they're more reliable/dependable, sales-wise, than most other acts, new or old. Part of it is that MSP's fan base, more than most other bands, will BUY their new albums, as opposed to younger fans of newer acts who have never bought an actual album/CD in their life.
