Doesn't have to be 'dark', so they won't have to force lyrics in that way. I'd actually be down with some very shouty melancholy. Or something.

That's a pointless article, they're just taking the quote from an old NME album from about a year ago or something.

The article itself is from a year ago. Even so, as with everything they say, it won't happen. A trio with a merely adequate drummer and bassist are never going to record the biggest rock record ever. Well, Nirvana came close but that would be a little unfair on Dave Grohl...

Wire may be an "adequate" bassist, but Moore is a master of precision and of the the better under-appreciated drummers out there.

Yes, I have to disagree with DK for once, too, it seems to be more of a case of of an adequate bassplayer and a singer/main composer who has given himself up completely. The precise and very underrated drummer is the only person to still be excited about in this band!
(I do agree about their perspectives about making the biggest rock album ever, though. I will be happy if I can condense whatever they come up with next into an EP I truly enjoy.)

I think their speaking more in terms of scope/grandure than actual commercial success.

Always the possibility you will not get new material. Sorry to be the sombre one in the room but this has not been mentioned by anyone. So just in case the unthinkable happens, treasure every song, video and memory of 'The most under rated rock band in our time'.

I've never dreamed about the Manics before, but last night had a weird one that they were covering 'Bring It On Down' and Sean Moore joined James on the guitar.
