Musical References on RTF

So by now we know that the track Rewind The Film is one long musical cribbing of David Axlerod's A Little Girl Lost (3:24), but what are the other "references" on the album, either overt or perceived?

Most obviously there's the bit at 1:40 on Builder of Routines which is like a melancholy rerun of the section at the start of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.

There's the verses of As Holy As The Soil which remind me a bit of the verses of Run of the Mill by George Harrison.

There's also the twinkly notes at the start of Rewind The Film which somehow remind me of the quiet bits in Streets of Fire by Bruce Springsteen.

Any more, however tenuous?

Running Out Of Fantasy has a little bit of Bright Eyes in there!
Well I think so - listen to the guitar after he sings ' confidential' the first time

Is there any mention of the first one in the sleeve notes?

Not clear references, but somehow I hear these "influences" instead

This Sullen Welsh Heart: Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne", some Belle and Sebastian acoustic track

Show Me The Wonder: Dexys and ELO

Rewind The Film: well it's almost a Hawley's song

Builder of Routines: it reminds me a bit of Noel Gallagher solo

4 Lonely Roads: The Smiths at their quietest

I Miss The Tokyo Skyline: some Brian Eno stuff

Anthem For A Lost Cause: it's pretty obvious, but in a perverted way it sounds also like a late Robbie Williams single I can't remember

As Holy As The Soil: the melody is very similar to Ash's "Shining Light"

3 Ways To See Despair: Pink Floyd? Neil Young? Anyway it sounds like a clash between Nobody Loved You and SYMM in a lower tone

Running Out Of Fantasy: Cohen again but I hear also some french crooner in it (like Jacques Brel etc.)

Manorbier: it's a bit the sort of weird instrumentals Blur used to put on their records

30 Year War: Nicky nailed it, it's really Blade Runner vs Tolerate...from this point of view it's by far the most "original" song of the album.

30-Year War is a remix of Everything Will Be to my ears.

There are parts of Anthem For A Lost Cause that sound a bit Design For Lifey to me

"Anthem For A Lost Cause" musically references "You Never Wash Up After Yourself" by Radiohead in the intro.

Being a forum minnow and all, my post saying exactly this in another thread wasn't acknowledged. It's ok, no offence taken... Oh yeah, it's 'You Know Me' by Robbie. It kind of kills any enjoyment of the song for me. That, and it's also not very good.

they don't sneak it in either. It's credited at the top under the All tracks written by...bit. Rewind the Film contains interpolation of Little Girl Lost. Little Girl Lost composed by David Axlerod

the bold text is mine but it was never in any doubt they were going to credit it surely?

Can definitely hear the Robbie reference now you (both) mention it... ugh. Why did I start this awful thread?!

When they were on SixMusic, didn't James say the 'Four Lonely Roads' vocal from Cate Le Bon was influenced by the female backings on Leonard Cohen songs like 'So long, Marianne'? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ61su9H5RU

I hate to say this but I feel the strings bit of this song are like the Corr's 'Runaway'. My status as minnow is certain to remain if I keep up with the horrific influences/soundalikes - I'll be barred for drawing attention to them!
