Is there anyone else who...

...is actually not able to listen to IKTZ from beginning to end because of its emotional impact?
I have to confess that I actually listened to it only a few times, and definitely not from beginning to end in one session.
I just can't. I end up feeling really bad and really sad, I just can't cope with how it makes me feel.
Too much sadness, too much pain, too much distress all at once.
I admire those who can make a competent analysis of the album and those who can listen to it, you appear to have more strenght than I do.

I know what you mean! It just feels very honest and without pretension at all. I was really ill with the flu and laryngitis all through last December/January and I remember Nicky's album was one of the only things I felt like listening to. It's like a big comfort blanket of emotion. Usually I only listen to a few tracks from it at a time now.

It makes me wonder what richey's solo album would have been like.

Haven't had it on a while but there's nowt on there that really effects me like that so it's alright. I can't listen to it without laughing. I laughed when I heard he was making a solo album, I laughed when I heard it and I'm still laughing about it now. I do love it though, can't believe it's not shit.

And see, I think would have been a better title for the album.
I don't get emotional over it. But I'm glad I bought it. I remember when I was working in the Oxfam shop I put it on the CD player.
The shop cleared faster than the time I put on James Whale talking about paedophilia when he was in for Jon Gaunt!

Let's put it this way: if I want to please my ears, I put The Great Western on. If I want to please my heart, I (try and find the strenght to) put I Killed The Zeitgeist on.

Mind you, I'm not saying that The Great Western is a shallow/hollow record, but, to me, it's slightly less down to the core.

I think there's a lot of humour in some songs, especially in the title track. "Ich Bin Ein Newporter" is one of the genuinely few laugh out loud lines he's written. "You will always be my home" is quite sweet.

Having said that "Everything Fades" is a tad bleak.

I love the whole album. Some of the songs do make me feel quite sad, but not as bad as William's Last Words (oh god that song)

William's Last Words make me feel physically in pain. I've never listened to it in its entirety.

Not at all, but it's worth giving them a go!

I have to say I do find it emotionally very moving, so I don't listen to it often, but it works well as a good get-going song - well, the first track does. We were setting up in a rehearsal studio once and the band next door were annoying us so we played the first track straight into a giant cab. I hope they thought Nicky Wire was next door.

Have to say, I wasn't that into JAmes' solo album. I like "That's No Way To Tell A Lie", but I really love the emotional honest of Zeitgeist and the slightly haphazard way it's recorded to the point that it sounds like barely-controlled chaos.

I know what you mean, it is a very sombre and beautifully flawed album. I'd love to play cover versions of this album - albeit in a Endless,Nameless era Wildhearts style complete with d-drum distorted drums and massive sonic booms. KAPOW!!!!!!!!!
