Are there lyrics by James on Postcards...?

If you look in the booklet there's some of James Dean Bradfield's handwriting - on "I think I've Found it" for instance. Cross reference the style of handwriting with that on the Know Your Enemy booklet for Ocean Spray and you can it's his. His writing is slightly neater than Nicky's and doesn't use as many joined letters. He also makes a point of elongating his Ys. Nicky's handwriting is more kinda rounded.

In the credits there's no distinction between lyrics and music so do you reckon James penned a few words? On the "I Think I've Found It" note it reads "written in Tenby with a hangover".

I wonder what proportion of Manics songs have been written while hungover. Gotta be over half. I don't think Symphony Of Tourette was though.

Sculptureofabloke, I was sort of expecting Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit'.

That works, too. Just that this album cover makes me feel trippy on its own.

James has mentioned in interviews the lyric is about coming to terms with the arbitrary nature of existence, which is the kind of thing he says that makes me adore him so much.

James takes Nicky's lemons and turns them into lemonade. When he can't he lets Nicky sing them.

Want to know what he means by 'roses'. Are they the flowers or the chocolates?

I love this song, actually!
Didn't like 'Ocean Spray' - I respect the sentiment, but as a song I thought it made for difficult listening (and not in a THB kind of way)

But, this is bonza in the extreme! I love the way pretty much the one happy Manics song was written by James. He's probably dying to tell everyone how happy he is, but can't cos he's in the Manics and has to toe the line!

James wrote the lyrics for I Think I Found It as he recovered from a hangover.

You can never be sure with JDB, but the phrase predates the chocolates.

1- Wine and roses
What does it mean? Just take it literally in this context. The air contained two smells. One was the smell of wine. The other was the smell of roses.

The phrase itself is from a poem.
'They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closes Within a dream.'
In the poem, I take the phrase to mean, in general, those days of our youth that are lazy and wonderful and beautiful and full of self-indulgence, with no worries or responsibilities. So, use it when you want to talk about that kind of thing in pretty English.
