Exactly what I was thinking. I can hardly imagine them being happy with Richey's image being used as a publicity stunt for some random band.

Yes, the early Manics and Richey himself would probably have been fine with it and probably did similar things, but given the circumstances surrounding Richey and his disappearance, that's probably not the case any more.

I don't think people were as bothered about that image as much as the song though

Manics (including perhaps especially Richey) have invoked very distubring but iconic images (Monk immolation, serial killers, mushroom clouds, vietnesse kids burning etc.) without a second thought so we, as Manics fans, can hardly lay into a underground hardcore act that hardly anyone has heard of can we?

Maybe, but the 2010 Manics are not the 1992 Manics.

yeah but Harbour 2010 are alot closer (in terms of size of audience) to Manics 1992 than Manics 2010.

This is true, but the band and various circumstances have moved on since then.

As I said before, I don't find it majorly offensive, I just think that Harbour's motives are disagreeable and they obviously haven't given thought to Richey's family and friends. I think it could even be forgiveable if they hadn't tastelessly photoshopped it.

His arm just looks ridiculous, it's super long and skinny. He looks like one of those stupid stretchy things.

But how is Richey an idol for a Hardcore band? He's not exactly a symbol of their genre.

I don't think its fair to Habour to say that cause the Manics wouldn't do that now then nor should they...of course Manics don't do that now - they're a massive band and have sold countless records...

if Habour are using the image to raise the profile (as is suggested) how is that different to the way Manics used iconic images (often insensitively) to raise their profile when they were a relatively small band (like Harbour are now)?

I can understand a band utilizing his image in some way as Richey has become an iconic musical figure - and indeed, the Manics used loads of images of icons and inspirations in their early days - but I think the main problem I have with it is it just seems really shoddily done. It's hard to say how someone unfamiliar with the Manics and that photo would be struck by it though.

Ed Sirrs took the photo. If they haven't sought permission he might be interested to know.

I'm laughing at the image really, it's not that offensive given it'll get a reaction for a) this band, and b) Richey era Manics who abused self harm for the sake of attention (which I find more disgusting in all honesty but hey ho!)

It's not like the Manics have ever done or said anything horrible to any bands ever after all. Oh wait...

Aye, at least they haven't used Richey to sell Converse.
