JPFL VS KYE

Don't know if another thread like this exists but I think it would be nice to see how people compare and contrasts different albums (i look forward to Lifeblood vs Generation Terrorists ).

Ugh! KYE? Any album they've made, other than GATS, is better then KYE, IMO. Some songs have grown on me, but overall, it's still profoundly awful.

JFPL wins by a landslide!

i stopped to think about this for 1 (one) second. the conclusion i reached was that if a track on JFPL featured the line "brain dead mother f*&%$@s" there would have been no reason for that 1 (one) second of thinking.

i am looking forward to your Lifeblood v Generation Terrorists one, the arguments on that are going to be excellent.

KYE was the album that made me a fan so I have a sentimental attachment to it but thankfully leericketts mentioned a lyric that has always wound me up on the album - in fact the whole song apart from the musical arrangement - what a petty childish lyric Miss Europa Disco Dancer has. Oh and Royal Correspondent too.

I'm slightly worried that anything the Manic do now will fail to live up to the lyrcial brilliance of JFPL :-(

Yes! I'm the only person who voted for KYE!
The fun is more sporadic in JFPL.

I must admit, KYE is a constant grower with me, it does get better with every listen, if only it & the b-sides were split into a double album, it would of made a lot more sense. Style wise there's not much continuity to it, great songs but the album itself doesn't have an identity, JPFL & everything post THB does.

This is a cruel poll, I actually count myself among the few who really love KYE (Intravenous Agnostic is maybe their best song) but JFPL is always going to be a better album.

Now a KYE vs GT poll would see a landslide victory for KYE?

I love both albums. Voted for KYE because I definitely feel it is underrated, even though I can't get enough of JFPL.

Journal For Plague Lovers is one of the best albums of 2009 and the best Manics album by far since This Is My Truth.... And Know Your Enemy is my least favourite Manics album because it's such a jumbled bloody mess in both musical ideas, lyrics and production (oh gawd, that production).

I voted JFPL.

JFPL wins hands down.

- The only track I think is shite on JFPL is Marlon JD, whereas on KYE there's one awful track for every great track.
- Similar to the last point, JFPL is consistent, KYE is not.
- Both albums do have a fair bit of effort put into the music but JFPL just has everything in the right place whereas stuff like Royal Correspondent and the naff Let Robeson Sing just ruin KYE.

So yeah, JFPL is either my favourite/second favourite (as usual, Electric Six are competing with them and do better than them in many ways with KILL) album of 2009, wheread KYE is an album I do like but often just forget.
