It must be pretty disheartening to read such criticism of the band on here - without perhaps taking on board the fact that the reason some of the criticism is so harsh is because a lot of people love the band and feel they can say stuff like that, when they'd probably stop someone else doing the same.

For example most people moaning about setlists still go see the band many times on a tour, and love their music - but to an outsider it might seem that all the fans do is complain. I think criticism is good and healthy, but not for James or Nick or Sean to see all the time.

I think a successful band has to stay a little detached from the fans, and vice versa.
but then he comes across someone like Gutless Wonder, and it makes it all worth it!

True, but then the other side can be taken to extremes too!

Although I am not sure if they do, the reason they didn't play Underdogs on the 2007 was because of all the bitching about the Tracey Emin quote in it.

True. No one could ever accuse them of taking notice of this place

You shouldn't meet your idols - perhaps it goes both ways and your idols shouldn't meet (or converse with) you - I don't think the human psyche can handle it very well.

Yeah, well since the underdogs thing....which is probably why they don't want to be involved, and maybe why James made that comment about their forums.

Well to be fair, if they don't like the criticism then they should endeavour to write better songs than Underdogs. Which, thankfully, it turns out they did.

Which is mutually convenient, and the people who run it can carry on with impunity, knowing that they're in no danger whatsoever of being thanked, recognised or acknowledged. Once that's sorted, we can get on with being one of the most independent fan boards ever.

Everyone totally took the Tracey Emin quote in out the wrong way, and seemed to be stupidly insulted by the term freak... Some people are so touchy.

Oh and the edit thing.

So they didn't bother playing it.

No, they didn't bother playing it because even they knew that it was terrible.

Oh, just the fact they let us have an early preview for the members of underdogs and the competition for the video - and I don't think the song went down too well, there was that thread about the edit, people took the freaks part badly, and I just think it got a bit negative.

I can see why it would put the manics off doing it again.
