Start Me Up isn't a great song and the band's cover of it wasn't worth the effort. No idea why they chose it.

Feels Like Heaven is much, much better. Up there with their better covers.

Ah, just confirmed it's an album-only job again. Well, here's to the joys of stealing music and destroying the music industry one irresponsible bit at a time. especially as there's much more worthy places for my hard-earned money to go, such as that charitable football-thingy with the ungrammatical title. And I'm really not interested in any of the other songs on there, not even remotely. Well well.

this is ridiculous, why is nowhere letting me buy this?!! i'd happily put a quid in to have the track, but i'm not spending a tenner for 35 other songs i have no interest in listening to!

I have a soft spot for many of the songs on the album (who doesn't?) but I just listened to the clips on Amazon and couldn't even get through 30 seconds of these covers.

It's not the sounds of the 80s at all, it's the sounds of now and those sounds are awful. They even manage to make Billie Jean unbearable.

It'd be like buying an episode of X Factor on CD.

Yeah, I have to agree... I haven't listened to it all in full yet, but a lot of the tracks seem to be pretty bland versions of what were originally very good songs. There are a minority of tracks were it sounds like some more effort has been put in to the instruments and arrangements, but they kind of stick out compared to the others... I'm completely biased, but to me the Manics' cover is clearly the best thing about this compilation.

And yeah, 'Sounds of the 80s' is very much a title referring to a radio show that spawned this than a description of the music.

A descriptive title might have been 'Sounds of Those Annoying Acoustic and/or Piano-based Cover Versions That Get Used on TV Commercials ALL _ THE _ TIME!!! (vol.2)'

It would sadly not appear so. That was what my slightly sarky comment was about. I'd absolutely buy the song! But album only? That is taking it a bit far. (Obviously that is BBC policy, so no criticism of the band.)
