70 songs of Hatred & Failure: Is it a good idea?

It's all about quality control also. 20 great songs and 50 filler will be diabolical.

Personally I'll be more than happy as long as James (yes you James) keep singing.

I'm quite happy for them to do 70 songs and to really push themselves to do something unusual and wonderful and not worry about commercial recognition or rediculous chart success.

James and Sean can write some amazing pieces of music and if Nicky want to his lyrics are beautiful and can really hit the mark. I'm more worried about the repeated comments about James not singing, using different singers and him being bored with his own voice!! For me James could sing the phone book and it would still be something I'd want to listen to. Someone needs to give the guy some confidence.

I'm just interested in finding out what they actually write and release next and a big change of direction wouldn't worry me at all. I think it might be good for them.

(But James has got to be the bands vocalist)

James needs to be singer. I don't want them to become backing musicians for different singers.

If the guest singers were part of an album that had different roles then it might work. I'd take a concept album over a different vocalist showcase.

70 songs is fine, but if we split the right and left stereo channels into separate tracks we could have a 140-track album in mono. Even if the economy recovers a bit by then, that's going to be a really great value proposition, and so should sell millions of copies.

It sounds like yet another 'fuck you' to the industry, going against the grain instead of producing crowd pleasing MOR like most of SATT and PFAYM. It is what the band had always been about before, they were influenced by bands such as The Clash who always went against what people expected and did their own thing. So if this is the only way they're going to get back to that way of making music, then i'm happy to put up with 70 songs!

The band is always about (over)reacting to their previous material. They should stop trying to react to what they think the industry or the fans want and just make something they want.

this is, on the whole, more likely than the Manics releasing a 70-song album.

Well, for me, 2002 - 2011, the manics have done some of their strongest work with a few near misses such as SATT, LB, etc.
