Nicky's got a very unique voice, which I like. Wattsville Blues, William's Last Words and The Future... have all been highlights in terms of originality on their respective albums. In my opinion he could sing more often.

I love Nicky's voice and think it always adds something to the albums. I don't see how anyone can say James has a monotonous voice, God he is amazing and really does sing like an angel or scream/rock like no one else.
I haven't really heard Nick's new track properly (only one listen while with friends a few weeks back) but what I heard I liked. I think one thing that is great about the Manics is that they never make the same record twice so for me Nick can keep putting out the odd track and b-side.

There's only so much a non-James obsessive can take of his multitracked bellowing for 45 minutes on this album without wishing for the contrast that Nicky brings to the table. James tried to find a second singing style of his own on TLORN, but, well, we all know how that turned out. |

It's a waste of good songs, letting him sing them. Aside from the album tracks there are a few great B sides he ruined that could have been so much more listenable.
I know it didn't really do any harm to the chart position, but some of my non-manics fan friends thought YLAINE was hilarious and that a tone deaf DJ had joined in halfway through.

Spot on! In fact, you don't even have to turn the album off, doesn't him out of Bunnymen do a bit of singing at some point? That should break up the JDB a little (as if such action were necessary...).

One track on an album is fine along with the odd B-side

It better stay as one track on the album, OR ELSE WIRE!!!!! And yes, would be nice to hear Sean's singing voice properly. Don't be shy Mr Moore!

Ah he's alright. Not technically good, but that never did a multitude of other singers any harm. I don't mind his occasional interjections, but as said above, JDB's got a great voice, why waste it? The Manics' songs don't lend themselves to a non-singer's voice in the same way as a lot of bands' music does.

I would take Nicky's voice over the lead singer of The Kooks' voice to be fair.

Basically stop completely, he is trying so hard to be like Mark E Smith but failing. He cannot put a tune across, none of his songs apart from Ballad Of Bankok Motel (more for the music than anything) have i actually liked! |
