Naysmith Plays on PFAYM
Just noticed this browsing through the album today! Was this common knowledge, i thought he'd burnt his bridges with the band?

Burnt his bridges? He was busy doing other things, I thought,

Apologies for the ambiguity, I should have really just said that he and the band appeared to have parted ways. Although there were all sorts of wild rumours floating here about the reasons for this.

Erm, yeah, anyway... I dunno about common knowledge as such, but it's certainly been highlighted before in one of the PFAYM threads. As far as I'm aware, it wasn't like Robert Smith one day deciding to randomly fire Roger O'Donnell and leading to O'Donnell thinking Smith was an arse - it was just that Naysmith didn't like touring any more, because he wanted to spend time with his family. Since he's done the keyboards on all their albums since EMG, they probably see him as being a reliable person to call on. A bit like Dave Eringa, who used to do the keyboards in the early days, but still works with them on everything to this day.

His mind would be awash with bad metaphors, unsustainable reactionary opinion, and one long anecdote about the time Comedy Dave put pound coins in the urinal. In short, the man who had read everything published today, would be more stupid than a man who had read nothing." - Stewart Lee |

This is a great news! Thanks. I wish I would be able to read the booklet in a few weeks (at least), I still haven't got my package
If only he returned to the live lineup instead of Reed, that would be great!

He had a good time while he was away but he's probably come to realise there's no more mileage in Mel C's solo career. The Manics are the John Terry's wife of rock bands.

Naysmith controls the Manics from behind the scenes. He's the man.

I thought the good people of FD made up most of those rumours for a laugh, did we not?

Yeah, he wanted to take up a new career in civil engineering demolitions.

He was too busy having wild sex parties to bother with the band. Hope he doesnt turn up live though, I can do without Masses Against The Classes sounding like a fairground ride

The next tour they'll play it acoustic. Only James doing vocals and Nick keyboards

I'm sure the advances in MIDI sampling, coupled with the fact they have a second guitarist these days, suggests that the likelihood of that event taking place upon his return would be rare.

I miss his stage presence!
I always enjoyed looking at him and Mitch Ikeda for some reason. It brought warmth to my cold heart |
