Got my 'Lipstick Traces' today - such a beautiful thing! Inevitably it's the rock songs that are most obviously and immediately improved, with the guitar sounding sharper and the drums louder - although 'Prologue To History' also benefits from the enormous drum sound. The guitar freak-out of 'Valley Boy' sounds immense and reminded me why I used to love that track so much. Just a shame 'Buildings For Dead People', 'Locust Valley' or 'Black Garden' weren't on it, as they would have sounded great on vinyl.

I recently emailed Music On Vinyl to ask if their Neil Diamond Bang Years LP was mastered from a different source than the CD. I received an answer from them the same day that said the LP was cut from the CD files. I wouldn't call what they're doing in this case sleazy at all, they are simply putting the release out there on vinyl for people who (for whatever reason) want it that way. If you want better sound quality than the CD release, you'll have to look elsewhere, but Music On Vinyl never claimed their release would sound better than the CD, only that it was "music on vinyl".

I'm currently listening to 'Music On Vinyl''s re-issue of Lou Reed's 'Berlin' and I'm astonished at how much difference it makes - it makes even the recent CD re-master sound like a x-generation cassette copy. The sounds are so crisp, all the background sounds are so clear, the bass is so ominous...I can't think of another album that's sounded quite so radically different to the CD version. I've no idea what source they took it from but it sounds wonderful.

Oh, I now have 'Lifeblood' on vinyl. I only needs 'GATS' and 'THB' now. I had heard that the 'Lifeblood' pressing hadn't been done very well but it sounds pretty good to me.

Anyone else updated their collections recently?

Yes! I recently bought the GT picture disc vinyl. I really want THB on vinyl but it's so expensive everywhere online.

I have on vinyl:
This Is My Truth (sounds gorgeous and more 'widescreen' - definitely worth getting)
Journal (As above, and has a real punchiness to it that doesn't always come across on CD)
Lifeblood (Just sublime, and looks AMAZING, they missed a trick by not cutting it on white-coloured vinyl though)
Holy Bible (well, on picture disk so sound is incredible, but boy does it look fucking BEAUTIFUL)

Agree completely with 'Truth' - I like the production in many ways but the CD always felt a little flat. On vinyl it doesn't, there's so much more depth to the sound.

Lifeblood - blood-red vinyl would be better, surely?

I asked them specifically about the Manics albums and got the following reply;

'we’ve used the provided metals as master'

To be honest I don't know enough about the process to fully understand what they mean by 'original metal parts' - anyone know more than me?

If anyone wants/needs the SATT singles on vinyl and also JDBs singles on vinyl, I'm looking to part with mine. They're all mint, with some signed :-)
Let me know!
I haven't played them, so you can have that experience for yourself too! Haha.
