Given that TUVL had genuinely grown on me (for the most part) and that there are albums I haven’t listened to in years, I’m thinking I’m going to do a complete listen through for the first time in a very long time. I suspect there may be some significant changes to my album rankings after that!

1-9 are albums I really like, 10-14 fall into the 'I like bits of them but mostly own them because I love the band' category.

It's funny, in the few weeks since I started this thread I have listened to pretty much nothing but Manics and my positions have significantly changed. TUVL has grown on me massively and relistening to some albums for the first time in years has reminded me how good (THB)/bad (RTF) they are to 2021 me:

The Holy Bible
Lifeblood
This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
Journal For Plague Lovers
Send Away The Tigers

I remembered liking it more but honestly got nothing at all from it on my recent relisten.

I guess I will say I'm glad they tried an album like that, even if it didn't result in something I'd want to listen to.

PFAYM feels like it started as a pure pop-rock album and ended in a sequel to KYE. If it had veered one way or the other, I'm sure it would be more highly regarded. I think the 'Last Shot at Communication' tagline really shot it in the foot, to this day I'm not sure what that means. PFAYM is the only album I'd struggle to describe in one or two lines. It doesn't really have an identity.

There's too many memories associated with the top three that I can't imagine them ever changing. The bottom couple are pretty much fixed, but the rest is kind of flexible dependent on my mood...

So I’ve been doing this since TUVL and the results are kinda wild but honest.

There’s no need for anyone to get upset or call the list police. This isn’t me saying any of these albums are objectively better than those placed lower than them. The Holy Bible would still be at the top objectively and TUVL happened to be in the right place at the right time to get so high up. This is just a list of what I enjoyed most while doing some decorating in September 2021 in order of what got the least paint on the skip button.
