Interesting. I find that the band go into the studio with a fixed idea of what sort of album they want to record. If they don't get that idea down 100% they see themselves as failing. I personally don't think that TIMTTMY should be in a mid placing, but then again James wrote the music so who am I to argue with him. I find TIMTTMY the most complete studio album.
I do like the quote "tension amongst the band and fans". I now need to go listen to Postcards again. Also the band refer to how happy they are recording SAT quite a lot in interviews. The album really did heal the band in many aspects.

If he likes Futurology so much, I wish he'd work on those foundations for the next album and come up with some better songs instead of the predictable thing of sticking yet more new clothes on his 3m30s emperors.

If you're actually in the band it must be very hard to judge the albums without considering their commercial success. One flop means your income is down for 2-3 years. That'd colour anyone's views.

I lived ten years of blissful ignorance as a Lifeblood lover.
Here in Canada, you can go five years without hearing any other human or media source mention Manics. Until recently, for some reason, I also didn't research critical reception or fan opinions so I've only just discovered the depth of Lifeblood hatred. I truly had no idea. There are 4 or 5 tracks on LB that just took my breath away in 2004 and still do now. Does this make me a bad person or a fuckwit troll or what? Sorry, I can see that the LB issue has been discussed for years here but this shame is fresh to me and must be expressed. I'll try focus on my genuine love for Futurology from now.

So he reckons Lifeblood was an experiment that didn't work, but really the only reason to think such a thing is simply because it didn't bring them more success. The period itself for them might be viewed as one of their worst from that angle, but the album itself as a unique piece of art and i struggle to understand why they can't just embrace that. I guess putting PFAYM so high says it all really, James is all about the strings and production. Actual song quality takes a back seat.
Also surprised in a way that KYE was so low, it's one of their most honest records. Exactly what they wanted and needed it to be at the time, very punk and very Manics. The early MSP would've killed to have made an album like KYE.
