So far so good, but not enough James vocals - feels a bit like a compilation or tribute at times.

The proof will be in the second listen.

Just noticed it's 30YW - "eternal fame" not 'flame'.

Aw. Quite liked 'flame'. But still great words.

And I don't think how many times I listen to 4 Lonely Roads, I don't think I will ever hear Cate Le Bon say "flown". Is it just me?!

Am I the only one who thinks the 30 Year War lyrics are cringe-inducingly awful?

Noun
busted flush (plural busted flushes)
1.(UK, poker) A potential flush which ultimately was not filled.
I thought I'd draw another spade, but I ended up with a busted flush.

2.(UK, idiomatic) Anything which ends up worthless despite great potential.
2004 May 2, Andrew Rawnsley, "Mission not accomplished," Guardian online (UK) (retrieved 14 Oct 2012):
If this [Tony Blair] is such an utterly busted flush of a leader, why are so many Tories and their outriders so keen to have this Prime Minister gone before he can fight another election?

(this definition from: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/busted_flush)

I can't believe that never crossed my mind.

Probably not, but why? I think they're superb.

However, according to wikipedia it was derived from Cellophane (which was itself already trademarked) and changed the 'C' to an 'S' in order to be able to trademark itself.

So in a way it would actually be quite ironic if the Manics changed it back to a 'C' because the 'S' was trademarked. But they probably just did I what I did and spelled it incorrectly.

… #Xellotaped my world in bits...
It is Cellotaped in the cd book and it looks WRONG. So annoying.

Maybe they had to pay the brand to use it with S and decided not to.

No probs Culture Junky.

----

Not a change, but just to note… for (IMT)Toyko Skyline… the offical lyrics are clearly wrong on the chorus. It just IS "This love I feel for a modern wonder" not "…this modern wonder'.

*Also noted in the lyrics post that the Captain Beefheart sample doesn't feature on the album as released to the loikes of us.

Yes, I noticed that, too. TBH, "a modern wonder" just flows better, so I think James changed it during recording.

I'm convinced he's singing "flame", I definitely don't hear "fame". It also makes better sense in context. Can anyone who's seen them do it live confirm?

I really think it's "fame" but I completely appreciate it can sound like 'flame'. It still does a bit to me a lot of the time. I think it might be a combination of things that makes it confusing…

1) All the background reverb/delay stuff going on - and there is a percussive noise that gives it some 'snap' as he says the word.

2) the 'al' of 'eternal' may be confusing our brains slightly. Followed by "Blame" as well.

Try putting it in a sample editor and slowing it down to 75% or 50%, and if you can reduce either the middle or side channels as much as you can, it becomes much more clearly "fame".

Also I think the line in the demo is clearly "fame" too, which isn't proof on its own of course, but adds to the evidence.

Fair enough, I've not looked too closely just rewound it 3 or 4 times in the car this morning. Also didn't think to check the demo. I know what you mean about the delay, sounds like you've investigated it thoroughly so I'm sure it's fame... bit of a shlame though.

Yes, it is, although it think it works both ways.
