I'ma fan of vinyl myself but, without wishing to sound too miserable, I won't be buying the new single as I don't really like it.

It didn't help that Some Kind of Nothingness is a very weak song with an awful video.

I'm sorry, but the SKON vid is amazing when compared to either version of Autumnsong.

I like the version of Autumn Song with the two girls singing. For personal reasons. Feels like some certain friends of mine did it, in other words, feels like the Manics show our same sense of humor.

WOW. I'm genuinely amazed - watching the video a couple of times has turned what was a fairly ho-hum song, for me, into something heart-warming, passionate, and served up with a warm pint of frisson. It's almost the opposite of Some Kind of Nothingness (great concept destroyed by a video produced on a Friday afternoon). Well done to all involved.

Plus how fit is the girl in it?

I think it's very interesting that we're only getting this single on vinyl. When I first bought singles, they were on vinyl. Then, there were cassette singles. Then, CDs. Now, it's come back full circle to vinyl. Good thing I bought myself a new record player last December (although, when I got it, I was thinking about playing my grandmother's Christmas albums, and my old records from the 1960s, 70s and 80s)!

I love to listen to old albums in vinyl, the sound is much more special.

The Wire really didn't put much effort into his 70s wardrobe/facial hair for this video.

True!
I also think that this attitude of wanting everything available instantly, preferably for free, IS an internet generation thing. I always considered building a collection of objects in different media as a beautiful part of being a music fan.
Of course there is an issue with songs not being available at all, but that practically doesn't happen, someone is ALWAYS gonna rip it for those who can't/won't afford obscurer releases. I'm more upset when there is no actual physical release at all, as with "Sutherland", Girl From Tiger Bay or Umbrella.
And no, a tenner for two vinyl singles is not expensive! But that's not what those complaining say, they only talk of the songs themselves. You don't just get two songs, the object has a value in itself.
But I don't think this divide between people considering the medium music is released in important and those who just want instant availability can be bridged, really, sadly.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, never thought that would happen!

I am fine as far as I can have something physical. I don't like to pay for mp3, I need my covers and my pictures and everything the vinyls/CD/even cassettes have. if I don't like the band much I don't care if I get a CD or what, but if I love it I want vinyls, but also buy the CD.

I don't know if it is a genaration thing.I grew up in the '90 and I remember how I felt everytime I got a cassette in my hands. It's just a piece of plastic but there was something magic in that even the smell of them.I'm not that much into vinyls as I need to carry my music with me wherever I go.Now I have my iPod but I don't use to buy mp3 as long as I can make them from the cds. When I buy something I need to have that in my hands but I have friends, and they are my age,who said me that they don't really care about a phisical thing when they can listen to the songs they want even on yt. That's sad.

i'd rather pay a fiver for a 7" than 3 quid for air which is what i consider mp3s to be. I don't feel like i own anything. My puter breaks everythings gone. I know you can back things up tenfold and re-downlaod things nowadays but it's not the same.
