Up next from the Manics...
It may be a couple of years off, but the NT compilation stuff has got me thinking what direction the next new material from the lads will take?
I'd love it if they delivered an album of discord, a claustrophobic raspy kinda soul. Minimal production, spontaneity, a few kick ass riffs and with highlights being their classic solid unstoppable rhythms, but keeping it bare and tight. Something unindulgant, imperfect. A sweat n stubble album with a few jagged edges. No sweeping strings no choirs (!) i did like PFAYM, but a sort of reaction against that album, akin to the contrast between TIMTTMY and KYE, would be welcome with this fan. Be interesting to know if anyone else is thinking bout it. Cheers!

I think that sounds too much like KYE....they don't want to do a knee-jerk reaction that won't work....I don't know what I want them make - something like following the bsides of there by the grace of god, or satt bsides....nice tunes, great lyrics, great voice.....a jangly rough record will probably just sound awful...

I want a succinct 10 song album that's still poppy but explores the ground they covered on tracks like The Vorticists and You Know It's Going To Hurt.
Just a really sharp and clean album of weird sounds and post-rocky pop songs, keeping the string section to minimum unless absolutely neccessary. It wouldn't have to be a difficult or obscure album - just good pop with an edge. Like a louder, faster Lifeblood or toned down PFAYM with better songs and stranger sounds. If we get PFAYM pt 2 (which would in essence be EMG pt 4) then I think I'd lose interest altogether. Come on boys, surprise us.

I'm not sure that a magic recipe for a good record exists. As long as it comes from their heart, it's fine with me.

I'm hoping for 12 songs that fit into the Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Solo, Chorus, Chorus mould.
One song in the style of a Verse, Verse, Chorus, Chorus would be acceptable. Last edited by The Quatercircle; 24-09-2011 at 16:00. |

Haven't they already said they want to try to do something that encapsulates all the different musical things they love? Wire specifically mentioned his love for krautrock and James' love for sixties pop groups as two examples. Basically, trying different things and incorporating them to the Manics sound.
Quite frankly, that sounds great. I want them to explore different routes and stretch their boundaries again. Have that wild spirit of not being afraid to do things a little differently again. That's the main thing I want. I want them to surprise again, do something that sounds different from their other works.

Yaaay, that sounds awesome and would lean towards what I mentioned above.

I'm looking forward to hearing what they come up with, whatever route they decide to take!

As Takk suggests, the fear is it could end up like KYE 2.0.

I'd like to see some comedy in the next Manics record. I know Nicky says he hates comedy records, but that was a few years ago, and if the band haven't got the ability to laugh at themselves then that's far more disturbing than limiting themselves to two different version of the band.

The band peaked comedy wise when they released "The Love Of Richard Nixon".

As much as I like KYE, I wouldn't really welcome them trying something else like it (production-wise mostly). But the trying of new genres and incorporating it in sits well with me. What I don't ask is for anything too contrived, aka PFAYM. |
