At Portugal during Tolerate (in amongst all the head whacking!) he did a movement with his hand against his arm that appeared to me to be insinuating what someone does when they inject a drug into their arm. (Sorry, I'm not very articulate! ) As someone said, whether it's because he has a little less to do on stage these days so wants to try and put some kind of expression into the song. Other than singing obviously!

More importantly, why has he started sing "baaaaaby" in the chorus of Masses? It sounds awwwful.

He'll have to sing 'baby' during Masses at Birmingham so that I can judge!

James smacking himself is a more disturbing take than the Cuba gig where during Masses he stretched his arm out then waved his other hand around his arse in time to the music.

I don't see a Traffic Warden, I see "Grazing Cow - An Interpretation"

Check the "Louder Than War" DVD! I'm pretty sure it's Masses. It's a song where he isn't playing as much guitar anyway.

Didn't he also punch himself during Design on the Millennium gig DVD? Strange cat.

Anyway, whilst we're all sitting here taking the piss out of him, here's an amusing screengrab of his face.

Although my favourite random violent James moment is still from the VHS "Everything Live" with that fucking boot thrown in his face at the beginning of the first song!

Track down the "Everything Live" on VHS. (Good luck...) A strum of his guitar and a boot in his face, but he never misses a beat and carries on! That's carries on Morrissey etc...
Unless it's a boot shaped balloon?

Okay, I watched the video that was linked....and I don't see him smack himself in the head once. I saw him wipe sweat off his brow and put his hand through his hair (which might also be to keep sweat off his face) but I didn't see him smack himself once.
