Did anyone else prefer Rewind the Film to Futurology?
Just wondering. It seems to be a minority opinion.

Yup me, I also think that RTF was the band exploring new musical territory rather than Futurology.

Futurology didn't do anything to me. RTF made me cry.

rewind the film matched where my headspace was at and I adored it when i first heard it. First time in ages i just wanted to hug the speakers. I still prefer it but Futurology is growing on me every time i play it.
I do understand why people didn't like RTF tho. It isn't normal manics

Me too but then I'm the same age as the band and I feel all those things the lyrics express, I'd have thought you'd need to be of a certain age to really get RTF, glad to see I'm wrong. I adore that album.

At the moment I love Futurology a bit more, but that might just be because it's newer.

To me, both albums sound like a band making the music they want to make, rather than forcing themselves to make what they believe the masses want.
As a result, I find both albums very enjoyable. |

For all my talk of "Hey RTF was a great album!" I still haven't played it or any of the other Manics albums, as the new one has still got a bigger pull onto me.
I'll consider this a few months down the line. |

Definitely.
On Futurology the title track and Sex, Power, Love & Money completely ruin the flow of the album, but RTF flows perfectly. The songs are also much stronger in general, if they had done that Post Punk Disco Rock album they spoke of it might have been the other way round. Futurology generally just sounds like the leftovers from Rewind the Film. RTF was close to being a masterpiece, Futurology is just another Manics album. |

That is something i admire about both records. Hope they don't go back to the PFAYM ways ever again, its all looking so promising at the moment!

I finally got around to listening to an album I was pleased to listen to any time from before Futurology's release date. And I still love TSWH, and it was only when the album got to the end of Builder Of Routines I'd realised I'd just had the album wash over me without paying attention. I skipped a couple of tracks and Running Out Of Fantasy is still the best track on the album.
Still in new albums magnetic hold. |
