The dearly departed Reuben used to say all of their thanks and goodbyes before the final song of the set and then leave without any fuss afterwards.

I like that the Manics don't do it, even if I felt very confused the first time I saw them. If they played fan-favourites maybe, but following A Design For Life at the end would be tough (that said, I'm all for ADFL being placed early in the set as per the PPF tour... just saying...).
They'd probably just make design for life the encore just like other bands do with their biggest hits

The most painful "encore" I had to endure was from the last Sonic Youth tour. HMMMMM.... we'll play our best songs during the encore, these Brits will never suspect a thing!

I was thinking the other day about when the Manics eventually play their last ever gig.
Not even then will they play an encore. They'll definitely end on ADFL, and the line 'as we are told that this is the end' will be utterly gutting.
Then, "We've been the Manic Street Preachers, may our gods be with you. Good night."
Not a dry eye in the house.

*gulp* Don't even want to contemplate that! Not for a long while anyway!

Love the fact they don't. Would like to see 'you love us' as a final song though as it used to be sometimes.
I'm so used to watching the manics I sometimes go to leave after seeing other bands now before the crappy encore. Lol.

Sadly, I think that's the only circumstance when they're likely to sell out the Cardiff Millenium Stadium again
And I'd expect a diverse set list at least 28 songs please. Yes I'm talking to YOU, Manics of the distant future.

Not until another 10 albums, at least!

Dunno TGW. That's at least 30 years. I know they're hard working, but I'm not sure they'll last that long.

James will drop dead in the recording studio I reckon!

(Not that I'm pre-empting anything! I hope! )

He'll be overcome by the pressure from FD to play IfWhiteAmerica on their 'HUGE' 2042 tour of Wolverhampton, Chester and Swansea Wetherspoons and drop dead on stage.
