What is the connection? For some reason, I always thought Simple Minds were the kind of wanky band the Manics would hate.

Orange Goblin. Only joking. Public Enemy is the one for me coz Hip Hop was something I never really listened to much. Apart from Cypress Hill back in the day.

The PPF tour properly got me into The Delays. The rescheduled Glasgow gig on the Lifeblood tour got me into The Departure, quite glad really as if the gig hadn't been rescheduled I would have had to endure Razorlight and that fucking prick Johnny Borell.

Their first 5 albums, in particular Sons & Fascination/Sister Feeling Call, New Gold Dream and ESPECIALLY Empires And Dance, are fantastic, and not at ALL like the stadium-rock U2-lite bombast most expect from them. More Kraftwerk than Kraft cheese.

Onto the topic...
Bands I got into purely because I heard the Manics mention them and thought "hmmm, might like them":
The Clash
Public Enemy
Magazine
Depeche Mode
McCarthy
Simple Minds

Bands I bought an album by (but don't necessarily like or dislike) purely because the Manics mentioned them or whatever:
Saint Etienne
The Skids
Wire
Delays
Hanoi Rocks (oh dear)
Johnny Boy (not actually gotten the album yet, but intend to)

Most bands I like that the Manics have mentioned I was already into before I knew the Manics had talked about them. Like GNR, Alice In Chains, PiL and Joy Division.

I would imagine everyone who has started liking McCarthy since 1993 does so almost exclusively thanks to the Manics. I'm no exception.

You meant Primal Scream(as Screamadelica is Primal Scream's album title), didn't you.

No one actually! Knew about all the support acts and their influences well before I heard they liked them. The Clash was drummed into me from an early age and I've heard of all the support acts. The one band Manics did have supporting them that I wish had stuck around where Hope of the States oh well!

The Clash
Guns N Roses
Public Enemy
Razorlight (they supported at MEN a few years ago!)
McCarthy (really wish I hadn't bought that album... suitably unimpressed!)

But then each of these bands have led on to other bands...

The Clash, and when Mew supported them I decided to pay attention to a 4Music Mew thing late one night and now I'm a big fan.

no i meant Screamadelica as in the album . I was curious when i heard James say that Richey wanted to have his lyrics/songs (which ones i dont know) sound like Screamadelica played by Primal Scream . James' answer nowadays is that that was already done by Nine Inch Nails. So i went and got said Primal Scream album, Cowboys from Hell by Pantera and Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails.

actually no.. i snuck that one in there! i knew i could rely on you....
i was convinced for years that i came across the name CRASS from Simon Prices' book*, and then i read a letter in the NME where someone mentioned them as a being kinda militant punk..... so i got a few of their cds.

"Do they owe us a living " is my favourite song but i was impressed by how chaotic and non-musical (in a conventional/contempory sense) some of the songs seem................

i did in fact first come across the name CRASS in Jon Savages book "Englands Dreaming"
