Futurology is the most disappointing album theyve recorded for me (not worst, most disappointing) simply because i expected and was sold the idea we were getting something radically different. It let me down big time, but in the end they owe us shit. Theyll carry on recording and hopefully make another few great albums in the process. Still look forward to the next one.

I voted NO but at the end of the day I think they should do whatever they feel it's the right thing. If they are still enthusiastic about making new music and still have something to say no one can tell them that they should stop. If people love what they make or not is a different question.

I thought they were going to call it quits after Lifeblood. There was a real sense that after KYE and Lifeblood that the band was sorta stuck in a rut. But they seemed reinvigorated with Send Away the Tigers, and their live performances suddenly seemed a whole lot more fun again.

I think they'll stick around for a while. They don't have anything to prove anymore. They saw out their initial (insane) 10 album major label contract and despite a couple of misfires, are still signed to Sony, charting well and having their albums go gold. There might very well come a day when they feel like they've done all they can, but after the early 2000s slump I just can't see that being any time soon. Despite a dislike of Futurology, they're way more inventive and full of energy than they were this time a decade ago.

I dont think they should stop. They seem creativly buzzing with ideas right now. As somone else said earlier, they are at the point now where they have nothing to prove anymore and will just do whatever the hell they feel like. To be honest, I dont think they ever will stop properly. I think the gaps between albums will gradually get longer and longer and they'll spend more time with there families, but I just cant see them splitting up properly. They'll probably always work togeather in one way or another.

They should have stopped right after Generation Terrorists!

Well, as long as they enjoy doing it and we as fans are able to accept the changes they make, then let them be. I'll keep enjoying their work.

I value your opinion but I think when it comes to hyperbole from Nicky then you have to take things with a pinch of salt. That said, the only tracks I think are Manics by numbers are Futurology, Walk Me To The Bridge. I've not heard any other music by this band that sounds like other tracks on the album. Divine Youth ( beautifully arranged, great melody), is an example I'd use. Nicky has always said a lot about albums pre release but 90% of the time I'm massively impressed by the actual album. I don't think the Manics will ever do an album that is drastically different to what came before where nothing sounds like Manic Street Preachers -there is always that need to remain commercial. If the band fuck off now and come back with a Kid A then I think reaction to it would be negative.

Also I think threads like this, if read by the band, could be hurtful and they may take it on board.

Well they haven't for the last 11 years or so, and we know Sean's been on here. These sorts of threads are nothing new... and knowing a little about the band, I imagine they're thrilled to think they're still "keeping us guessing".

I also think having 90% of their listeners vote in favour of them carrying on is a damn sight more reassuring for them than if you'd run this poll after, say, Lifeblood, SATT or PFAYM.

Agreed. They seemed on a downward heading until the PPF tour in 2005, where they really seemed to start enjoying themselves again. Crazy to think that was almost a decade ago...

This is a place for discussing the band and the artistic output of the Manic Street Preachers. As long as there are no personal attacks against band members, I think even harsh opinions should at least be tolerated. After all, this place exists to discuss the Manics, not exclusively to worship them. I am sure after 30 odd years in the business they can handle that, even if they do read this stuff. But then, I come from Smashing Pumpkins fandom, and compared to that even folks like DK and Donkey are very tame in their opinions.

Maybe I was looking in the wrong places, but besides debates about the lineup, I never noticed anything uppity about Pumpkins fans. Netphoria was a little silly but the official board (until it disappeared at least) was one of my favourite forums.

I was going to say the same. The atmosphere at gigs, even down the front, has always seemed to me quite pleasant too.

In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I voted no. Obviously I want them to go on forever.. but if they want to call it a day, then who am I to complain?
