considering this is one of the few (legal) ways to get Motown Junk, Theme From Mash and the single edits of ME and If You Tolerate on CD, odd that it would be "much panned" by fans?

The only legitimate complaints I remember is that it doesn't have Stay Beautiful or Roses In The Hospital, the song containing the lyric 'Forever Delayed', on it.

The Manics are my fav band ever but FD is one of the worst GH of all time.

Not only cos of the choice of tracks, but also the production on the early stuff hasnt ages very well at all.

And they should have kept TBTGOG, DTTR, and FD the song itself and stuck them on Lifeblood.

Its just a glossy piece of crap really.

Yeh the track-listing is weird as well.

To plave Motown Junk after The Everlasting ("In the beginning, when we were winning..") I thought at the time was some kind of sick joke.

yeah, singe edits do tend to be shorter, hence me calling them that they might very well be "shit" versions, but even the shit versions warrant a place in a complete collection?

for a compilation geared towards selling to the more casual purcahser whilst trying to appease the die-hard, loyal fans with some CD rarities i don't think it is as bad as some of you clearly do.

don't get me wrong, i don't think it's a "perfect" comp for the band, but it could have been oh so much worse than it is. glass half full, and all that. a 2CD set that feature a straight one disc "hits" and a second disc of "rarities / fan favourites" might well have been a better idea?

I bought it at £3 a couple of years ago for my best friend cos he's not really into any bands or music at all but he now likes the Manics (well, the greatest hits anyway).
I bought it when it first came out for £13.99, still got the price label on it. Shame Suicide Is Painless has a little bit of the solo missing and the Everlasting is butchered beyond belief. Oh well. Tolerate isn't edited though, is it? What's diifferent about it? I've never heard an edit of Tolerate ever.

Just had the album on, Tolerate isn't an edit I was 99.5% sure it wasn't but had to make sure.

i would agree with this - i am sure the FD version cuts to the end much sooner after "and on the streets tonight" that the standard album / CD single version? let me dig them out....

I have! It's how I got on to the Manics. Found it for £4 in a second hand cd shop. After listening I went back the next day and bought EMG, THB and GT for £6 the lot from the same shop.

Never looked back.
