Not so much a cringe but sometimes the whole self discovery of being Welsh can get quite repetitive. They went from being angry provincial outsiders to a living walking advert for the Welsh Tourism Board. I understand it, but this constant defining themselves as only talking about and singing about Wales is getting a little unimaginative.

In spite of this I do love and respect them for being a constant in my life since 1992. Pre-internet. Pre-mobile phones. They were a band when the Soviet Union existed!

Haha yeah like Glyn said about Bradders pronouncing here as hear, it's only in recent years I've noticed it, now I notice it all the time when he talks. Which has reminded me, it kind of just amuses me more than anything, but in recent years James sings "WWWWWAAA Design for life" live, which my girlfriend picked up on about two years ago and always pokes fun now.
Oh, and again, it's not a 'cringe' moment, but for the last decade, hell maybe even 13/14 years, Everything Must Go live sounding so weak and James singing the "and if you need an explanation....ATION!" bit in a high pitched little girl-like voice has always frustrated me. It kind of sums up now flat and weak it is as a live song now, which is a shame cos it's a great song and I used to love it.

I thought that was just his Welsh accent, not any kind of affectation. James/MSPKYE (who is from Caerphilly, so not far from Blackwood) pronounces it the same way and that's just the way he speaks

Self discovery? Sorry, that made me picture them waking up every morning, stumbling out of bed and going I'm Welsh!! Am I Welsh? I am? Ah man.

Hyur hyur. (Randomly connected but though I love Snow Patrol Chasing Cars is a challenge...until he sings If I lay hyur. Awh Gary Irish I know but if James could mix in a bit of Irish with the Welsh....when he's not singing Chasing Cars.)

I second this. Escape from History and somehow a lot of the imagery connected with the EMG anniversary tour oscillated between weirdly beautiful, manicsy stuff (in a Wire's-photobook-way) and pictures that looked like beautifully shot random advertising stock for the Welsh tourist board. This is what the "Manics' Anton Corbijn" does for them these days? Ah well, it appears to please the band...

I love the accent too! But then I quite like hearing regional accents in songs (as long as the singer in question has a good voice), like Guy Garvey's accent often comes out in Elbow's songs, I find it oddly comforting.

Their avoidance of playing JFPL live. I love the album and it's probably my favourite of theirs, but got into them Postcards era and can generally only get to one gig per tour so I've only heard Jackie Collins live. Also I can't listen to Underdogs, and half of GATS.

To be honest though, most of the things that have been mentioned on here are things that make me laugh, I find their foibles (mostly) endearing! Once I realised they'd become my favourite band (near 7 years ago now) I knew that they'd never be displaced from that position.

The premiere performance of I'm Just a Patsy (for your love, above), followed by You're Love Alone Os Not Enough and It's Not War Just The End of Love

For a band that professes to not 'talk about Love' (of Richard Nixon) you don't half go on about it
