Mini Rant

Hi all,
I apologise if this comes across as negative and discourteous to the Manics but it is more to do with the management side of things. I love the band and I love the fans but what really grinds my gears is the lack of any real news coming from Camp Manics. I get it, we don't want to be fed too much information so we can remain excited for the eventual release but there seems to be a severe news drought with this band.

In an age of digital freedom other bands use social networking and news feeds to drop snippets about forthcoming albums (This is due to management and not the band itself) it seems there is a very long time period between hearing anything about new MUSIC with the manics ( I appreciate tour announcements but that is generally a money spinner).

Nicky has adopted Twitter as a way of drip feeding news but lately it seems to be announcements relating to anything BUT the bands music.

I am agitated by this and I understand this thread might irk some people but it is something that annoys me.

I know I am asking too much.

I read it as they haven't got much news to give. The record will come and they'll exert a little energy discussing it when it does, but for now they're probably enjoying a little "pressure's off" time. They all have young families and they're clearly not a priority for either their management or label, an arrangement which I suspect suits them very well.

It's irritating as a fan but this is the band, these days.

Years ago you wouldn't have thought anything about it. It's only because we are used to receiving so much information through so many sources that it's frustrating when we don't. Be patient it will come, probably in the style of info overload, bit like buses you don't see one at all and then all of a sudden two arrive at once

I understand that. It's just that they've announced a tour but there is hardly any real news about the music coming through. I'm impatient.

I don't mind waiting at all. I don't need to know what they're doing every minute work-wise. It spoils the surprise

I quite like the low key approach they had for RTF promo. I'm sure they'll be something before the live dates like a video or something.

I don't think their hearts are in the mass communication thing any more, if they ever were. They tried to do it for PFAYM and it looked cynical and desperate.

I'm with AK on this one - it's called excitement, so what's the issue with that?!

I originally read the thread title as 'Mint Rant', and thought it was alluding to an article where Nicky goes on a tirade about why bother putting holes in Polos or something.

Yeah, it's excitement, but we're not entitled to anything. That they are making two albums so close together and touring is enough for me...I don't really care if we get wire tweets about songs that turn out usually to be total bollocks anyway

True -- we ain't entitled to anything.
BUT let's be honest, as fans isn't it great we are still excited about a new release?
But I take your point about the twitter bollocks Wire speaks - but at least it entertains for a while
And yep two albums close together probably means we are a little spoilt - but I'm impatient, so I want stuff now!!
