I doubt they'll be keen to sell a novel on the strength of the pictures stuffed in the middle...

I think it's crossing the line (even further) to illustrate a fictional book with pictures of the real person, and I hope they don't do it.

All of the books about the Manics to date have been fiction. At least this one won't be falsely advertised.

I hope the people who are writing off this book as some form of sick money making plot describe the appreciation thread in the same manner.

As someone said it's published fan fiction. Like any manics book to date there is the possibility of it being totally respectful or vice versa. I think it's unfair to say it's 'crossing the line' just because it's fictionalised. There's been books/shows made about the facts that have crossed the line.

I'm interested in a way but I don't like fan faction anyway so i'll probably give it a miss. I'll check out the pictures in the middle though

How exactly could appreciation be called a money-making plot? Saying that fan-fiction is exploitative is one thing, but you're actually making a comparison on financial grounds and that makes no sense at all.

Surely it's no different to The Damned United (I'm sure there has already been a thread about this book)? Was that sick?

It was based on real events, but obviously the vast majority of the dailogue and plot was heavily fictionalised. It'll be the same case here I'd imagine. That book had Clough's silhouette on the cover on the edition I have and the film tie in edition had Clough's picture on the front. I don't see the problem or why this should be any different. Clough's family and his former players at Leeds cast doubt on how accurate some of the versions of events were, but the clue is in that it's a "fictionalized account".

I'm really looking forward to it and can't see any problem with it in the slightest.

Suppose it's got the potential to be entertaining if you can see it just as that. Yeah, it's probably a cash in but that doesn't immediately make it a terrible thing. Just because something is a cash in, doesn't mean you're obliged to oppose it. I presume most of us bought Forever Delayed and Lipstick Traces. I'll probably flick through it in Waterstones at some point and grab a copy off ebay if it ends up on there for a quid or something.

Ben is an author like any other. Maybe he is doing this for the love of his art. I think it's really crass that you'd think this is solely a money making plot because it's going to be sold. It's blatant disrespect to judge a piece of art before you've even seen it. Have you even read anything mr. Myers has produced before? You have no real idea what this will end up like and yet are deriding it before you've even seen an extract.

I'll hold my opinion until the book comes out. I'll read a few pages and then make up my mind. Anyone who writes this completely off as a money making exercise is little different to people who wrote off Journal for Plague Lovers for the same reason.

God this will be another 'In The Beginning' you can just tell.

Hopefully this one contains more vivid descriptions of Sean biting his lip after SCOFFING SALT AND VINEGAR CRISPS.
