Not necessarily a bad thing. Watching them do Hold Me Like A Heaven on The One Show minus the first verse was a real low point, and the album still got to number one without TV promo.

I have to say, making a lyric video and calling it an 'official video' is a new low.

I disagree! Opening a video with Wire's home demo is even lower

But seriously. How hard would it have been to record footage of them performing all three singles when they recorded the footage for "The Secret He had Missed", and just intersperse that in amongst the stock footage? Surely that would have taken the bare minimum of effort? When everything else about this era is so triumphant, it's such a shame they're making so little effort with their videos.

Yep it's certainly underwhelming. I feel like responsibility for this sits with Sony, to either cajole them to create something or to provide the cash to do so, now they are BACK TO THEIR BRILLIANT BEST WITH A NUMBER 1 ALBUM

Oh sorry, caps, how did that happen

Interestingly the newest tweet about it describes it as a "unique visual" rather than a video.

https://twitter.com/Manics/status/1446399542535016449

Compare to the wording "the bespoke visuals of ‘Orwellian (Gwenno Remix)' " here:

https://twitter.com/Manics/status/1438216129256771589

It certainly feels more like that sort of lightweight approach to a track, but that one is not called "Official Video" on YouTube, it's just "Manic Street Preachers - Orwellian (Gwenno Remix) - Visualized"

Dare we live in hope that their YouTube person got the labelling mixed up between this lyric video and an actual proper video that's yet to come?

(I won't hold my breath)

It makes sense. This video released around time of No Time To Die. The video is like a James Bond intro.

Funnily enough I was talking to a lad I support who likes Strictly Come Dancing. I was telling him the other day "my favourite band were on there 11 years ago" so I showed him the thumbnail on Youtube and was like "Wow, they could get on there again if they wanted to". I laughed and said it's not that simple for bands to get on TV nowadays sadly to perform and promote their work. Had no TV promo at all for this album sadly, not one thing
Promotion is a waste of time, everyone who'd buy the album already knows about it. They might get a few more listens on streaming services but that's virtually worthless. No insensitive to promote anymore unfortunately.

Yeah, when this video was announced I was wondering just what the incentive is to pump money into a third music video when the album's already sold the bulk of its expected sales.

Looking at the history of this band I think they have often, perhaps always, treated videos as more than solely a tool for sales/promotion - the video is a part of their artistic statement. Call me naοve but see Distant Colours as a fantastic recent example of precisely this - they used it to deliver more than just "here's us doing the song, please buy it".

I liked it. Lots of ‘band playing Complicated Illusions’ is already available to watch in multiple forms, if that’s more your bag.
