Indeed. When I first read those lyrics and cringed at them I had no idea they would turn out to be one of the greatest and most fun (daftly enough) Manics singalong words. Works so brilliantly with the whole musical context.

Except in that context the line's a good lyric. Seriously, this man thinks "Godfather 3" is a phrase which will translate well into a lyric? Carlito's Way has a little bit of poetry to it... but this? I mean we all know James is a miracle worker, but this one is going to test him.. rhyming "free" with "three"? I mean.. really?

Also slightly scary that of all the lines on the album this is one which he's singled out as worth publishing in isolation

Really? Come on we haven't even heard a second of the record yet.
People are building this up too much.
We've heard nothing recorded, nothing live.

I don't know about others, but I haven't rubbished the music...how can I when I haven't heard it yet? That doesn't mean I can't say I don't like some of the lyrics in isolation that Nicky has posted so far. It might work within the context of the song and the music might be great; I'll have to wait and see.

Indeed.

But the thing is, we have read a lyric line about Godfather 3. Which is what people are talking about there.

So tralalala.

(not to mention half the posts are "okay that line is a bit crap but they've made awesome music with poor lines before so THIS CAN BE AWESOME")

To be fair Autumnsong sounds pretty good from James but is shit on paper.

Excellent point. James's vocal delivery can make pretty much anything sound fantastic! Everyone bangs on about Nicky's lyrics being cringe worthy, and while some of them are, some of them are fantastic. Let's face it, some of Richey's lyrics, when taken out of context, are a bit cringe worthy too.

I'm all for opinions, but constant negative opinions on something we can't even press the Play button on yet.
I think the Manics down the years have had lyrics that on paper don't quite sound top drawer, or you couldn't imagine how they'd fit but once you've heard how James delivers them, it makes a bit more sense.
I don't think lyrics should always be taken too seriously.

True, but it would seem likely, it wouldn't be like Nicky to make up lines and then not put them in songs

plus 'Its not war just the end of love to feel some tenderness do you have to give up x'
seems obviously to be a lyric from that song

Don't get me wrong, personally I'm more bothered about the music and James' vocals than the lyrics tbh, but all we have at the moment is probable lyrics. What else can we all comment on at this stage other than our initial reaction to reading the messages on Twitter?

Well, some of them aren't lyrics, I think all of them could be random wire musing, it strikes me as the perfect format for him.

Well obviously not all of them are, seen as there was one about Andy Murray the other day Some of them probably are though. Either way, it's hardly surprising people are responding, both positively and negatively, to those Tweets when that's all the information we have at the moment.
