For Lifeblood fans at the 02 gig...

...well, those of you planning on being on the front row.
I found this on my old hard drive.
Blow this up to sandwich board size or as large as possible, and force it in the band's face:

Don't do that, it may ruin the gig by making them collectively put their fingers in their ears and "LALALALALA" in three part harmony until the truth disappears.

I don't know about that, but when they play Nixon I'm gonna jump around loads to the wicked solo! Wonders if Bradders will play it on his flying V guitar again?

Their understanding of an albums success is based on how many copies it sold. That's why they see SATT as the high point of their post 1998 careers

True, but they usually factor chart placings in too and it produced two singles that got higher in the charts than Postcards (as well as the critical acclaim, fan support and the fact that even a Manics album that doesn't sell as much as the others still sells a fair amount). Isn't TIMT one of their biggest selling albums, too, and the non-single tracks are pretty much ignored off that one. Its just mystifying.

I don't think they do, actually.....I think they see SATT as a bit of a failure except Your Love Alone.

They're not called weird for nothing! (The band I mean!)

I still think everyone going to the gig should make a concentrated effort to cheer as much and as loud as possible when they wheel out the LB tracks/TBTGOG.

Lifeblood is one of their finest achievements, it took a lot of balls to go in a direction people thought they would never dare go. The results were brilliant, because they pulled the album off with consummate ease, as you would expect - but I think the sales did cloud their judgement. Casual fans were probably very confused by it all and decided to stay away, and it probably lost them some traditional fans as well who didn't like it. James being a traditional rock / punk lover probably felt that it went against the band's ethos and disowned it immediately. I reckon Sean still loves it, don't really care what Nicky says because his opinions are always a bit hypocritical.

In all honesty, the only songs from Lifeblood that I can't stand are "The Love Of Richard Nixon", "Emily" and "I Live To Fall Asleep". Everything else works for me on one level or another and the b-sides from that era are fantastic.

Unless they've changed their tune again recently (which is entirely possible, given their track record), I've always thought they regarded SATT as a 'vital' album that made them carry on to do JFPL. They got their God-Like Genius Award in that period too, which Nicky at least still seems to be chuffed about and they got to do the NME Big Gig off the back of it, so I don't think they view it as a failure at all.

As for Lifeblood, I will be showing my appreciation at the O2 for TLORN and Empty Souls, and TBTGOG as well. I didn't even really like TLORN live much last time around, but I'm rather excited to hear it again for some reason.
