Too difficult to choose just one...I'm exclude those on 'Lipstick Traces' and 'Forever Delayed' just to make things more interesting;

'Tennessee (I Get Low)' - wonderful punk track, much better than the GT version.

'Too Cold Here' - beautiful acoustic lament.

'Black Garden' - atmospheric track, almost an after-echo of 'The Holy Bible' with a great solo.

'Buildings For Dead People' - should have been held back for 'KYE' really, and included along with...

'Locust Valley' - as much as I love 'KYE', this kind of inventive rock track would have improved it.

'Litany' - needs a second verse (lyrically), but seeing as the verse it has is practically perfect it's easier to forgive.

'Welcome To The Dead Zone' - I doubt I need to explain this choice.

'I Know The Numbers' - another gorgeous acoustic track, I can even forgive it for being a love song.

'Engage With Your Shadow' - and no, I'm *not* joking.

'Empty Motorcade' - ok, technically it's on a deluxe edition on an album but that doesn't count. Should have been on the album, maybe even a single.

The EMG b-sides are often looked down upon but Black Garden - with its truly unsettling '...swing...' opening - is definitely one of their better b-sides (though not among their best).

You're completely right about Buildings For Dead People suiting KYE. I hadn't thought about that before, so thank you (I always felt Prologue To History and Montana/Autumn/78 were the link tracks between TIMTTMY and KYE).

Locust Valley should have been on KYE. It has an itchy, frazzled, long grass heatwave summer feel to it. One of the better experiments from that era.

I have been deeply in love with Litany ever since I first heard it, so for me it is simply wondrous - I never tire of it. Should have been on Lifeblood (which, frustratingly enough, was originally titled Litany), and maybe even a single.

'hibernation', as it's still the most pathetically beautiful admission of a defeat most of us experience in our 20s and 30s.

Montana/Autumn/78
Empty Motorcade (the solo / breakdown = love)
Black Holes For The Young
Sepia
Dying Breeds
Everything Will Be (despite the horrific odes to hair-combing)
Never Want Again
Dead Trees & Traffic Islands (A great title, and the outro makes it - this felt so strange upon hearing this at release. Actually, Dead Passive sounded strange as hell, but I find that one to be shit)

See if you can post it's youtube link - most of them are there.

For me, tough choice, but this song's buried itself into my brain but good! Something about it's melody and James' voice really gets to me.

No album tracks including Lipstick Traces?? Ok.. in that case I'll probably have to go for Us Against You, first b-side I heard on vinyl, fond memories of buying it off Opal Music in 2000 and playing it fucking loads.

Just been listening to this, had forgotten how good it is, real sonic depth that pointed the way to the instrumentals on the last two LPs.

Still not my favourite though, I think Donkeys would have to be up there with Automatik Teknicolour as strong contenders.
