Can you buy Manics CDs in Cuba?

A bit of a strange thread, but I was worrying if the gig made any kind of cultural impact there? Was anyone in Cuba at the time? Has anyone visited since and noticed any references? You'd have thought it'd be a big propaganda victory for Cuba, that Western society understood/showed solidarity with Cuba, despite the certain restrictions on trade etc there?

Manic Street Preachers as representatives of Western culture? Now there's a thought.

I've not been, but i know many many people who have been in fact, my brother was there just last month.

I highly doubt their performance made any cultural impact whatsoever (they're not the only "western" band to play there either). Cubans love music, but are rarely ever exposed to music outside their country so the music enjoyed is indigenous to the island. Also, luxury items like CDs, are not easy to come by let alone affordable given the small wage most earn.

I've always been in the fence about that gig. On the one hand, it opened the door for other acts to follow suit, but on the other hand, it played like a publicity stunt that went horribly wrong for the boys. It was more about generating buzz back in the UK, perhaps even the US too, about their latest album then it was about playing music to Cubans.

i would take a guess at around the time of their performance there one would have found a healthy bootleg market, in particular for KYE and Baby Elian?

D's is an abbreviation of "Disks" - I'd allow it

Not with an apostrophe though. It also doesn't need dots, as a contraction.

You can put an apostrophe in plural intialisms so they don't get mistaken for words. So if you were talking about multiple Operating Systems, you could say "My PC has three OS's" because "OSs" might look like a made-up word 'Oss'. Not much danger of someone reading 'CDs' and 'Cds' but technically he can still save his soul from the fiery pit of punctuation hell by using that excuse.

Erm, yeah, so Cuba?

Aye, but it doesn't really work with non plurals.

My guess is there's no market for them. There seems to be very little market outside the UK and Japan, and maybe Europe...I have seen them in NZ, but rarely in US...
