Empty Motorcade sounds more like the result of them sitting down together to listen to a Garbage album and one of them going 'this gives me an idea!'.

The percussion heard throughout Next Jet is (I'm fairly certain) sampled directly from Charade by the Skids but there are no working mobile links to the studio track on YouTube.

Black Square is a callback to Removables isn't it? "slowly passing always"?

If you happen to come across the interview again/know which one it was, I'd be really interested in what he had to say about Bright Eyes, as I've often wondered whether the Manics liked Conor Oberst and his music.

It wasn't until last night that I truly realised the little riff and LET'S GO TO WAR chant was definitely from FNM's We Care a Lot. Next album, I want to see them rip off some Patton-era stuff.

The Paris song reminded me of this song by Hooverphonic.

I remember reading Nicky saying Richey would have loved Bright Eyes.

Yes, I can definitely see that! Such an intelligent lyricist (IMHO)!

Walk me to the bridge sounds like "Heroes" or atleast the guitar solo. More noticeable in live performances.

It was a brief comment in an NME issue dedicated to Richey in early 2005. Maybe 10 yrs since his dissapearance? Nicky commented that Richey would probably like Bright Eyes as it was 'beautiful music'. That was literally it. It was just after they'd blown up with Lua & First Day of My Life

Ah, alright, thanks! And "Lua" is one of my all-time favourites.

He's been playing it on his current solo tour!
