Thank you for this. I immagined something like this, actually. But the studio version really sounds like he's singing it all the way non-stop, so he must had been practising for it to be recorded the way it is, but gave himself some freedom at the concerts. I am well aware that studio versions aren't completely reliable because they're subject to modification and manipulation, though. Just like a magazine picture of a photo-model. You know he/she is pretty, but you also know that the picture isn't genuine.

I will take a listen later and see if I can spot the joins. I think one of the most obvious examples of this outside the Manics is probably Monkey Wrench by the Foo's. The primary difference is that Dave will miss out the end of every line live to get his breath which is of course perfectly natural, but the recording is very nicely stitched together.

Notice how even in his pomp, James struggles with Mausoleum which is probably why it was not played too often.

^ Yeah, but they only played it twice live, he may have been missing a lot of it out cos it wasn't well practiced.
