I take EMG to be a simple goodbye to the past!
I think they are saying that they must leave a certain version of the band behind ("Escape from our history"). Clearly they tried to reinvent themselves after Richey. Quite explicitly they make it clear in this song that they perhaps couldn't cope with making another Holy Bible (at that point) and ask the fans "And I just hope that you can forgive us". I think it's definitely one of their more straightforward songs to understand. |

Yeah, but I was talking about that specific phrase, 'Everything must go'. What does it mean inside the sentence?

Is was just the title of a Patrick Jones play that Nicky liked the sound of wasn't it?

I didn't know if it was Patrick's, or if Patrick took it from them. Fair point.

It was Patrick's originally.
I have always thought it refers to stripping everything away - getting rid of the glamour and the uniforms and the makeup (even Nicky stopped wearing makeup for a bit) and going for a less complex sound - basically tearing it all down so they could start again.

I think that makes even more sense in context of a song, actually.

I was more of a 'Dog' person than a 'Richey' person until now, but can anyone give any idea of what he might have meant, other than maybe alluding to Richey? |

Also, I have no where to put it, but it's along the lines of Manics-research so I thought I'd try, can anyone figure out which book is the one being burnt in the Suicide Is Painless vid? You can see some of the pages at around 1:22.

Ah, this is why I have this thread, I'm not able to connect 1+1 so effectively myself.
Yeah, works for me. |
