I like most the b-sides really, don't think too much of Bored Out Of My Mind though.

The fucking hideous Everyone Knows No-body Cares. What about Happy Ending? I'm Leaving You For Solitude? Engage With Your Shadow? Any of those

Put that in the controversial Manics opinions thread!
I quite like Socialist Serenade, musically enjoyable certainly. 'No one knows what its like to be me' gets my vote, terrible lyrics "Dr and dentist, housewife and thief" and the music lacks both melody and energy.

That's a point about No One Knows What It's Like To Be Me, actually. Sounds more like a Morrissey title than a Manics one. Still think it sounds alright though. I just think Bored Out Of My Mind sounds a bit too dreary and boring, but I suppose I shouldn't expect anything else from that title

Socialist Serenade is great, too. Just thought, I suppose I'll have to go for Horses Under Starlight maybe.

First Republic. The vocals are deplorable.
Horses Under Starlight. Good title but make that bloody trumpet stop.
They just sound very last-minute.
Most of the b-sides up to EMG were really good imo. The EMG ones seemed like a new band. A less exciting one. Bit like the album, I guess.

Horses Under Starlight wasn't really last minute. According to Everything (and yes I am aware the book has flaws), it was carefully planned out by the band as a something that JDB had 'wanted to do for a long time' or something similar.

I agree with you about First Republic being a bit poor, I like the outro though.

Same, love them. Plus The Soulmates and Everyone Knows/Nobody Cares. But whatever, each to their own.

For me it's either "Failure Bound" or "Valley Boy" for being so utterly boring. But I'm going to defend "Engage With Your Shadow" for one reason - it's hillarious

Never Want Again
Wrote for Luck
Hibernation
Velocity Girl
Failure Bound

Some of the more recent Nicky-sung ones are poor as well, i've lost track of which ones they are. Haven't paid much attention to the B-Sides from PFAYM or anything post YLAINE really, don't know why. I know there have been some good ones.

I put on my Empty Souls DVD single earlier and put on Failure Bound...turned it off laughing after 30 seconds. Least Dying Breeds on there makes up for it, that's a really good song indeed (the dinosuar lyric has always made me smile though )

Everything Will Be. Simply because the Glastonbury 2003 performance was really good, with a kind of ska vibe. But the studio recordings wasn't half as good.
