I'm curious if there was an even lengthier edit of the song at one point, as the album sleeve has a jumbled up/extended version of the final few verses.

PCP - I love the final part when the backing vocals begin.
NSAF is good, but I'm not crazy about it. |

Probably not: the GT booklet has a fair few missing/unincluded lines on songs and what we've seen from Nicky's handwritten lyric sheets ever since KYE there's always quite a lot of crossed out additional sections. I suspect the co-written times similarly had bits of lyrics that didn't make it to the songs and whoever wrote the GT booklet didn't check whether or not the written words on the sheets match the actual content of the recording.

Didn't even have to think about this one - Condemned to Rock N' Roll. Epic guitar riffage from James. The 'Rocket Queen' of GT's 'Appetite,' as others have said. Dig this song so much I chose the title as the slogan to spray paint on the shirt I wore to my first Manics gig. The perfect closing song to me.

No surface all feeling for me.
Most of the others are ok, but SYMM is just insultingly bad lyrically.

Condemned To Rock N' Roll for me too. I don't care what anyone says, its one of those epic 10/10 tracks of pure Rock brilliance.
In order: Condemned To Rock N Roll No Surface All Feeling PCP Freedom of Speech... Gold Against the Soul Don't Be Evil Winterlovers SYMM William's Last Words Cardiff Afterlife I don't really like any after Gold Against the Soul as album closers. I can see why some were chosen as such - like SYMM, Cardiff Afterlife and Williams Last Words - but they are just relatively weak songs. Winterlovers and Don't Be Evil just leave me unfulfilled as closers (the former also being a relatively weak song). |
