I've often thought about it, but the idea of having BBQ sauce with anything alcoholic in it makes me feel ill. Would taste like marmite.

When I first saw the title I wondered if it was referring to James Dean (not Bradfield) but since hearing the song have figured that's probably not the case.

I've no idea what it means, but it's up there with 'Peeled Apples' as my favourite track on the album.

I'm pretty sure (although no doubt multiple readings are legit) that it would be a reference to Jack Daniels, as 'Marlon' is slang for brandy anyway... Any thoughts?
EDIT: Hold on, J.D. is whisky, not brandy, isn't it. Sorry, I don't drink much these days. Still, might be a conglomeration of two different alcoholic doodads...? Last edited by Man of Kent; 18-05-2009 at 22:33. |

Can anyone tell what the film excerpts from Reflections in a Golden Eye are saying? I cant make a lot of the words out (that presumably Brando is saying) theyre really tinny and muffled

sorry for my ignorance, i should've searched before getting impatient.
and on a side note, I really like the JD sauce they have at TGI fridays, dunno if that is the same as the bottled stuff though. |

Could it be 'Junior Dingle'?

Nicky just said on XFM that JD might be a refference to Brando's mother, whose name was Dorothy Julia.

It's better with nicky singing.

I think this is the weakest song I'm happy to skip it in fact

+1, it's boring, I don't understand how the track is so popular, I'm finding myself skipping This Joke Sport Severed and Doors Closing Slowly as well, still a good album on the whole though

Aye I'm not bothered about Joke either really. So Marlon, Joke and William for me I'm not arsed about! Well it is rare that we like every track on every album right?

Heat magazine said that it was their least favourite song, describing it as 'dirge-like'. Not that I read Heat or anything....

Surprisingly it's the only Manics album other than THB that I don't feel remotely tempted to skip any song (GT comes close, but sometimes I have to skip Damn Dog and one of the repeats just cos it's so long!)
