It's almost as "un-manic" as Autumnsong, but unlike the Hair song, I love it.
Lyrics are really moving, although I prefer JDB's vocal to old Ian's (obviously, MSP are way better than the Bunnymen). Despite the fact it does feel lyrically like Wire's 73rd "Ode to You-know-who", it's great.
Maybe I'm biased, opinion twisted by my two year old daughter, who adores it and sings along with the choral bits, but I love it.
Yay! Apart from the 'old Ian' bit. Love Ian McCulloch / Echo & The Bunnymen!

SKON is written solely by Nicky, so it goes without saying that (along with his Golden Platitudes) it displays the best songwriting on PFAYM. And it's supposedly about remembering dogs, so that helps. I'm just turned off by the overbearing production.

Will you listen to the excuses Gutless?

They are so not 4 real tru COR!

This kind of reaction to the Holy Bible or the follow up gospel would have you ex-communicated from the Manic Fandom and rightly so

Now we have to rally round the Bunnymen ... there's no let up is there? I love Ian's vocals. Very melancholic.
The Killing Moon has to be one of the best songs ever written...but digress

Comparing Richey to a dog does not help your case

I'm worn out defending the Manics, dunno if I have enough energy left for the Bunnymen as well!

Dogs! SKON is a tribute to dogs. The booklet and Making Of DVD confirm it.

Also, watch Nicky at the end of this video.

Dogs! Take it, take it, take the revelation! It makes the song x5 better.

Richey would be honoured to be compared to a dog anyway. He hated people. They all do.

Maybe if It's Not War was about hamsters, it wouldn't be so shit.

After the previous big "Love!" single it seemed dirty and seedy, like Send Away the Tigers.

Or something Richey said to him, or something he had to look at as part of his degree coursework, or something he saw on telly one night.

However what I am grateful for is Nicky's newly found songwriting skills after 20 odd years in the business. The Future Has Been Here 4ever, Marlon JD and She Bathed Herself... are some of the best songs of the modern MSP era.

I just looked at the title of this thread and immediately said to myself "It's called "It's Not War (Just The End Of Love)" - what an idiot!" and then realised I created the thread with the typo would a kind mod care to adjust it please?

PS: SKON is pure cheese but I do like it.

And quite right too! Perhaps now's not a good time to say that....

I don't like The Intense Humming of Evil....
Runs for the hills, pursued by the CoR Inquisitors...

In other news, the rest of THB is just...... bordering on perfection.

The follow up gospel, that's a bit more flawed, but still ranks as their 3rd best work IMO (after THB and GATS, oh, that's not going to go down well either!).

I love everything (that involves JDB! ) and get it in the neck so you will be safe I'm sure!
