I like the lovely strings on Manics songs, they add emotion to the given song. All this forum is turning into is a moaning session about this and that about what the Manics apparently do wrong, which is why I don't come here as much as I used to do. Strings = good. No strings = good. Manics = good.

Thank you, I would have been unable to express what I feel about all this in such an accurate et perfect way but that's exactly that.

Ha, I dunno about boring! They're a right Jekyl And Hyde band at times, if James were a less distinctive singer I'd forgive anyone for not knowing the last five albums were the same band. All I know is the next album will be nothing like Postcards From A Young Man, and nowt against the album really but that suits me fine.

A lot of discussions here do sadly turn into that, which is why I'm hoping my post offered a different angle on what I'd want from a new album.

You would find it more boring if all the albums sounded the same though, surely!

If all of PFAYM was like the latter half of PFAYM (Stripped back no strings) it probably would have been better remembered.

I don't mind the strings, and in some cases I think they work quite well. That being said I'd prefer a rawer, more guitar-driven sound on the next album. Or failing that, synths rather than strings.

They could do salsa for all i care, as long as the next record has great songs on it. The strings were heavy on EMG sure, but the songs were structured well. It doesn't matter what you use to make a great record, as long as it is a great record in the end. PFAYM and some of SATT lacked in that department, which is why it was mostly complete shite.

If i had to choose though, i'd like something along the lines of KYE in terms of eclecticness. Perhaps a bit darker this time round ala the mid-section of TIMTTMY, as the best elements of those albums combined could make their greatest record.

Hello. There are no strings on I'm Just a Patsy. More like synth, surely?

I think DK was saying that strings would not improve I'm Just A Patsy. I love Patsy myself so am not fussed either way!

Ah bugger, indeed he was! I think Patsy's a tune but I can see what people are saying about the swathes of strings in some cases. It definitely doesn't always translate well live - SKON is a case in point for me. Love that song but live the backing track or whatever it is sounds strained and artificial.

They should take a choir on the road with them!

If his impact on the manics is nearly half as good as the impact his return's had on the WWE, I'd be happy
